The area
Neighborhood: Belleville / Père Lachaise
At the eastern edge of Paris lies Belleville / Père Lachaise, an understated wonderland of local treasures. Alongside the world-famous cemetery, family-owned delicatessens and cafés nestle between local stores and establishments. The richness of the population here has created a little Chinatown of Asian restaurants, and the area comes to life at night by a funky underground scene. Façades change from one street to another as one passes from white walled provincial homes to tall blocks and reconverted homes. The whole area is an inspirational mix of people from all corners of the world frequented by artists, students, immigrants, and Parisian families. Once home to supporters of the Paris commune, its rebellious nature is now offset by its rural charms.

Well Edith Piaf and Maurice Chevalier spent the early parts of their lives here and hung out. Now it is multi-cultural and interesting, and you can get some great views of the city below. Lots of ethnic restaurants.

After you've tired of the tourist crowds in central Paris, come explore this outer neighborhood, home to Edith Piaf and the real folks. We returned to see a terrific photo exposition, stayed for a drink in a cafe and a long walk. Worth a visit.

Stayed here on my second visit to Paris. We stayed for three weeks in an apartment and really enjoyed the area just off rue Oberkamp
. Quite a trendy area I'm led to believe and from the noise outside our window near the bar, quite a happy place to be.
I would fall asleep at about 7 AM every morning due to the noise but that's not to say I didn't enjoy the area ,I liked the rail line that it was on , all the food places nearby and I just like wandering around the area.

Located in the 20 arrondissement, Ménilmontant is a favourite of ours to frequent, we especially love the Moroccan eateries located in the area for a cheap meal.

This road is very unique and interesting. We can see the eiffel tower from the end of the road. The view even nicer in the evening since we can see the lights illuminating the eiffel tower.

Come see one of Paris' famous working class neighborhoods, now full of immigrants. Some splendid views as it is up on the hill.
