This is the gem of France's theatres and a must go-to if you visit Paris. it is a classic. I went to see Tartuffe last week and did not regret it. Try to book in d=advance if you go as a family or group but, if you are alone you can find cheaper last-minute tickets on the day of the play.

I speak enough French to order a very good meal (and that involves a fair amount of hand gestures and the odd word in English accompanied by a hopeful look). Thus, I was astonished when two dear friends who head a theater company in the US told me that I absolutely must go to the Comedie-Francaise when in Paris. They assured me that if I picked a Moliere play I'd be fine. Well, with some trepidation, me and the missus booked. The first time I laughed, which was right after the curtain went up since Moliere is funny, I sort of held my breath ... And listened. I was NOT the only one laughing, Phew! My friends were right, I was good to go and away I went on a magically fun theater ride. I understand every 1000th word or so but French Smench, it didn't matter. Take a chance and give it a try. You will definitely NOT be surrounded by a bunch of American tourists. This is as French as it gets without the need for a mistress. Enjoy!

We waited till the cheap seats went on sale, around the corner (les strapotins) and sat in the highest balcony to watch Le Malade imaginaire. The chandelier alone is worth the price of a ticket.
Picturing the ladies in their silks and satins behind their fans surrounded by red carpet, seats, drapes, and wallpaper must be experienced! The statues of the authors are stunning. Take the tiny little elevator in the corner to complete the experience. They have a lovely gift shop with nice things to send home, wrapped just so and sealed with a gold sticker.

Found La Comedie Francaise by accident, while being as usual lost while walking around Paris.
Very beautiful building with so much history.
Went into their shop and found the most kind ladies I encountered in Paris.
The stores have great and fine things to buy, they wrapped beautifully yall our purchases. A treat to be just inside.

You have to absolutely respect this theatre! Even if your French is weak, like mine, do not be intimidated to go to the Comédie Française to see a play by Molière. It is a very special experience ! Everything is top shelf! And for this play, I have a special appreciation of how the company’s performance is designed to pass on the greatness of Molière to children! Extraordinary !

Known as Moliere House (he died almost on stage, just after a play), the Comedie Francaise is believe to be the oldest theater in the world, located a block from the Louvre and next to the Palais Royal. While created by King Louis XIV (1680), its status and operations were set by Napoleon… during the Russian campaign and are still in force today. It’s the only State theater and is the temple and guardian of the classical repertoire. It’s a privilege to be coopted to be part of this prestigious institution. I got a cheap last minute ticket to Victor Hugo’s Lucretia Borgia and that was a great experience: the theater carries a magic feel of history, the play was mesmerizing with a modern staging. It really worth having such experience while in Paris… even if you don’t understand French. Tickets can be purchase for the same day.

My Favourite theatre in Paris, undoubtedly the most beautiful, though it passing the centuries, it remains the same, awesome and beautiful.
The room "Richelieu" is according to me, the most gorgeous room and the most representative of the art of France.
Words miss me to explain how the theatre is !
I provide you to go to see one or more plays in THE house of Moliere ! the symbol of the French theatre and the French art !
Have a great moment in Paris ! 😄

If you have any appreciation for theatre, I would recommend catching a show here. It was affordable, and, as other reviewers have attested, both the facility and the performance are world class. If you don't speak French, make sure you read the play in advance so you know what's happening, but it was a wonderful treat to hear and see Moliere done in the language for which it was intended. Translations of Moliere to English can't hold a candle to the rhythm of the language in which his works were written. Arrive early and enjoy an affordable cocktail in the elegant lounge. Bravo! (And use the restroom before the show...no intermission and a lengthy curtain call!)

My poor French always gets a workout when I attend performances here, but the spoken French on-stage is so wonderful it's worth it. If you know any French at all, this is a fine experience. The performances, the actors -- everything is devoted to the preservation, the love of, the beautiful French language at its classical best. Moliere reigns supreme. A fine gift shop, as well. It's near the Louvre, near many restaurants, and near the wonderful Number One Metro line, for easy access.
