A must in Paris is a meal or coffee in the restaurant under the beautiful dome roof with views over to Sacre Coeur.

I wouldn't bother if you're on a budget. They served some lovely food, but that's about all we could afford!

The January sales had just started so it was too busy to shop, but we went to the rooftop and got a spectacular view across Paris for free! Don't bother with the Cafe as it is expensive, but the views were amazing.

Au Printemps opened in 1864 a full thirty years before it's great rival, Galleries Lafayette. Both great department stores are located a stone's throw away from each other on Boulevard Haussmann not far from Opera Garnier. The brasserie on the sixth floor has a wonderful Art Nouveau stained glass cupola. The floor plan and the series of escalators can get... More

They might have been better than those seen from the Eiffel Tower or Arc de Triomphe. My husband and I decided to go there when the kids were having some down time and we went up to the cafe on the 9th floor of the homegoods store and bought two bottles of wine for 12 Euro, two wine glasses and... Whilst visiting Paris before Christmas we came upon this wonderful department store, housed in a beautiful building which occupies a huge chunk of Boulevard Haussmann. It is simply spectacular! Gilded domes, stunning window displays and what must be one of the best views of Paris from the rooftop terrace and restaurant. Celebrating its 150th anniversary, Printemps was in full Christmas... To enter the store you have to undergo the security checks nowadays but this shopping center inside impresses with the quality of displays and merchandise. Especially recommended now in December. It seems to be in competition with La Fayette Gallery. It's window displays are colorful, illuminated, frequently animated and very interesting.

Christmas had always been associated with department store windows. Printemps near place de la a Opera had ver beautiful decorations in an eerie blue. Worth visiting before Christmas.

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighborhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighborhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theaters, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
