Quaint bar that stands out from the other bistros and cafes. No decoration, just real. Not stylish, but authentic. Not classy, but cozy. A place to meet and get to know people from all over the world. You can google the age of the bar and its history (Bloody Mary was invented here). Friendly, stylishly dressed waiters who also speak English. Large selection of good cocktails at prices that are not overly expensive for Paris (16 euros, non-alcoholic 10 euros). Nuts included. The only drawback: relatively small and therefore fills up quickly. Especially in the evening (and) when live music is playing. Tip: go there during the day. Then there is something going on (but you are more likely to get a seat), the cocktails taste good and you might stay until the evening :-)
I can recommend Harry's New York Bar in the "Roo doe noo" in Paris to everyone and I will come back.

We went to Harry's New York Bar in Paris twice while spending a few nights in Paris this April. What a wonderful bar. There's a first level and then a lower level below street level. The lower level has a small piano/band area and a bar downstairs as well. The staff is all extremely helpful and kind/funny. Great atmosphere and most importantly, great drinks! The bar has been in existence at this location since 1911 and were the first to make several drinks that are popular worldwide today, including their famous Bloody Mary. You have to try the Bloody Mary, it's delicious and addictive.

We came here as this bar was round the corner from our hotel, and I'd heard they claim it was the place which allegedly invented the Bloody Mary.
It's very small inside and seems always to be busy (we came here twice on our trip) but it's a lovely spot and I can see why it's popular.
The cocktails are a little on the expensive side but worth it as they are very good.
Enjoyed our visits here.

Place was not clean inside. The nighttime bartender, middle age with lightly colored hair was extremely rude to us to the point he created an uncomfortable situation. When my husband ordered a second cocktail, this bartender was clearly aggravated we bothered him again. It was clear he was just biased against Americans because he was fine to all of the other local patrons.

I'm not a cocktail aficianado, but my husband is and he was really satisfied with his Manhattan. The server was excellent. We were attended right away and the cocktails were served promptly and properly. One thing that surprised me was that the atmosphere was pretty casual. It was also full of American tourists, but we were there mid-day so I'm not sure what it would be like later in the evening. Anyway, all in all, definitely worth a visit if you're curious or appreciate proper cocktails!

It was ok. We went for a drink and had hoped for some type of small plates but no food served except hot dogs. That was our fault for not checking out in advance. Piano playing was going to be starting later. Iconic bar.

We were tired of paying a small fortune for drinks at our high-end hotel in the Place Vendome, so we slunk over here, just a short walk away, for nightcap. Finally, someone knows how to make a proper American-style Manhattan, and at 15 Euros a piece, a bargain considering the area we were in. The place was packed to the rafters, so a Sound Print of 79 dB was Loud, not Very Loud. We were still able to talk. I liked the historic ambiance.

Go On- tick the box I did,
yes it is an institution and no it is not a tourist trap, you may have to wait to get in? but I have been twice and was able to get lucky, the cocktails are a good price for Paris and they are "liberally" made which can make them taste a little different each time and or not what you remember from your usual place or bar.
I did find the upstairs bar to have a better barman mixing, but it was nice to see a bit of jazz music down stairs on my first visit. I recommend the Jolly Roger

We had to wait outside for around 10 minutes as it was busy inside - this was around 10pm. Service was excellent once seated and the drinks were very good. Our waiter was very polite and we would recommend to friends and family. We would come back.

We were in Paris and although they had already warned me not to go there, I wanted to see the place for myself given its great history. Report: the place looked like it was about to close, no music and very high lights. Undrinkable drinks, we asked for a bloody mary and it arrived with 4 very small cubes floating on the surface of the drink, as if it had been left on the counter for a long time. The only positive thing was the friendliness of the waiter. I hope they improve these little things because it's really a shame for a place like this.

Coming into Paris from the 24 Hours Le Mans race and traveling very casual just shorts, jeans t-shirts and the like. So concerned we might not be able to come in if there’s some kind of dress code. Does anyone know about that? Thanks.
