Beautiful building, stunning Windows and pictures. Not really tailored for the English speaking to read any info do I recommend you buy the information book from the gift shop at the end of your visit. Awesome info in that. Can take photos in there but no flash.

This place is for everybody, you may pray, see the architecture or take a stroll next to the canal. Situated in between two canals its almost like an island. Good restaurants around, you have plenty to explore. There are two good souvenir shops behind the cathedral if you want to take home some memories. Something worth watching.

We bought skip-the-line tickets through a tour company. Then when we arrived, we found out that the tickets were for the Towers - 422 steps up...422 steps down. That was one long line. The other, much longer line, was to go into the church. Separate lines. I'm writing this review to let people know (those who might not already know...)... More

The cathedral, of course, is breathtaking. The lines can be long. Go early to avoid them. To the east of the cathedral is the Square Jean XXIII, with lovely gardens, views of the cathedral and a playground: terrific for attraction-weary kids to burn off some steam.

Decided that this was a definite must see when we were in Paris and we were not disappointed! It is massive and so peaceful inside! There were lines to get inside but they move pretty quickly (and it is free to go inside) so there was no more than a 5-10 minute wait to walk inside. When you do get... More

This is a lovely old church and should not be missed on a trip to Paris! I suggest getting there early to avoid the lineups.

Notre Dame is another "must" visit if one travels to Paris because both of the history that has taken place here and because of the sheer beauty of the cathedral. The waiting line is long but moves quickly. It is a short walk to several Metro stations and a bit further from the Louvre and other major buildings by foot... but... More

Views and gargoyles are fantastic and worth the trip. Staff is very rude. Lady (employee) came up to middle and shoved us from behind to get to staff area. No excuse me or warning. Just shoved everyone in line. Then we waited 20 minutes to go up to top and yet then were rudely told (same lady) we had to... More

Stop in, light a candle, gaze at the gorgeous stained glass. I'm an atheist, but Notre Dame is spectacular. The line out front to get in usually moves rather quickly, so don't be too put off by the length. If you have time, see the ancient ruins just outside beneath the square.

This is a busy site but a must see. The architecture is amazing and the stained glass and artwork is stunning. When we arrived the lineup looked long but it moved fast so don't be discouraged.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
