Our tour of the Notre Dame Cathedral was included with our Viking River Cruise trip, as were all of the walking tours. The high ceilings and ornate statuary were awesome. I have to say, however, that by the end of our week-long journey up the Seine with stops in many villages, we saw so many cathedrals (and lots of them... More

This place you have to visit. It is a experience in a good way. You don't have to like churches, but visiting this cathedral is a memory for life time.

I've got to admit that well over 10 years ago I visited Paris and I was underwhelmed by Notre Dame. The tourist crowd didn't help. But I recently visited the city and I was ecstatic. The Cathedral has been revealed after the restoration and the stone has recovered the original satin white. I't beautiful beyond believe and looks pearl white.... More

This is a great place to see! ... Be advised however that the stairs to the bell towers are spiral, small, and many!! .. both on the way up and down!! The views are GREAT, and I would seriously recommend this visit to all! ... The brochure does say that there are 400 steps, not suitable for pregnant ladies, people... More

Not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't as awestruck as I expected to be. It was beautiful. Entrance was free, which was nice, but I just expected more! I was surprised that it still holds mass. And was also surprised that they charge for prayer candles.

An impressive work of Gothic architecture both outside and in. Its free to enter and when we visited no queues. The stained glass windows are incredible and the quiet atmosphere inside makes it a memorable visit. Feeling energised we also did the tour to the top of the Cathedral (again no queue), although there is a small charge for this. For... More

Notre Dame is a beautiful building. Be sure and catch it in both day and night. Try to time your visit so you can hear a mass.

You can't go to Paris and not stop hear. The lines are sometimes long, but seem to move quickly. allow at least an hour to see the inside. If you walk through some close by neighborhoods you can get some good views of the back. Also good pictures of it from the river tours

The building is so beautiful and well crafted. A lot of thought has gone into this masterpiece and the history behind it gives it that extra special something. Climbing up the tower is well worth the view. Be careful on a windy or overcast day as it can be a little wet and scary. There are people selling things in... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
