We took the tour for the church and went up to the roof top. The tour was OK, she didn't explain much of anything about the church and we pretty much do everything ourselves. If you had already gone to the submit at Eiffel Tower, it is no need for you to clam the bell tower again, it has the... More

My husband to the top of Notre dame. He thought the views were magnificent and loved the gargoyles. We also went inside and the statue of Joan or Arc was Awe-inspiring. We had visited a lot of cathedrals during our trip. I loved how Notre Dame has been kept more or less the same.

There are plenty of great cathedrals in Europe, but this one is excellent. It is worth your time to see. Take time to walk around the rear for a different view.

If you have travelled Europe a lot then it is just another cathedral but it is a wonderful specimen. Lots of history and beauty abounds.

We have visited Paris more than 20 times, and have never missed coming to Notre Dame. It is simply the finest Gothic cathedral in the world. Each time, the beauty, and peace, one can find here is incomparable.

A breath-taking Cathedral in one of the prettiest locations. Its a very popular tourist attraction so there was always a queue to get in. However, it was only 5 minutes. One thing that isn't advertised well is the second entrance down the left side of the cathedral where you can clime the stairs to the bell tower.

This was worth seeing, but rated average because inside there is no organization so navigating around can be difficult. Many good photo ops, though. Plan on spending a while here as lines are long and the outdoor plaza was crawling with pick pockets and people scamming $$ so be careful.

Great to see inside and small queues in morning. Keep quiet and enjoy the windows and architecture. Worth a visit and good value restaurants nearby

The Cathedral was much, much larger than I thought before entering. It is incredibly beautiful and merits a good tour guide to explain all that there is to take in. Wait time to enter the Cathedral was about 15 minutes and well worth the wait. This is a must see in Paris.

Of course this is one of Paris' iconic landmarks, a quintessential example of the Gothic style. But it is also incredibly crowded, with long lines to get in. To get the most out of it, be sure to arrive early, and to walk around the outside -- especially the small garden area on the south side where you can also... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
