Neighborhood: Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendor. This neighborhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.

I have eaten here several times, always sitting by the windows looking out upon the street. This is close to the train station so all kinds of people are seen. The service is excellent, as is the food, especially the oysters and seafood specialties. It's usually busy, but well worth the visit.

Watched Olivier De Benoist's show (all in french). It was very funny. Was not expecting to laugh that much. I knew he was funny, but was not sure he would have enough material for an entire hour. Highly recommended if you are fluent in french and have basic knowledge of french culture and politics. P.S. Arrive 30 minutes in advance to ensure u get good seats.

Good food, nice atmosphere.
I did catch the waiter (who tested my passing french earlier in the meal), charge me for two meals that my family did not order. An additional 30 euros on our lunch bill that I insisted they remove.
The manager and the waiter both colluded to hide the bill from me, and request payment. When I had to reach over and read the screen on his cash register, only then did I noticed both of them had over-charged me by 30 euros.
The waiter was only apologetic after he'd been caught. Really bad form.
If the waiter asks you to get up from your table to go pay your bill at the bar, at the cash register (with his manager), make sure you demand an itemized bill, and proof read it.
I would recommend that all Americans, and those who are less fluent in French, to avoid this restaurant. Really bad behavior.

Nov 2015 • Friends
I went to see a play at café de la Gare which was excellent and not expensive because we bought tickets at the last minute. The actors were very good and I was thoroughly entertained by the show. However, The seating was poor, to say the least. We were up high on a kind of bench with a thin cushion on it. I couldn't help thinking all the way through that if there was a fire in there it would be impossible to escape as the ceiling is very low and the exits not large. My friends agreed with me. The toilets leave a lot to be desired too.To be honest I can't say I'm surprised. I have yet to find a decent theatre in Paris - they all seem to be old and grotty, but then coming from London I must've been spoilt on that front. For one of the most visited cities in the world Paris has become very shabby and has slipped far behind other european cities in terms of cultural venues and even cleanliness. They need to get their act together ;)

Bonjour,
Jessie
