My boyfriend and I attended the Insert Coin exhibition on coin machines, so we can't speak to the rest of the museum at all. I'd say it requires patience and an active interest in video games, but it is good value overall. The fact you can get in for free under the age of 26 and still have 2 tokens is pretty good I'd say, and not much more to get 10 tokens. The signage was very interesting and informative, and there are certainly a wide variety of machines to choose from. I think you will definitely appreciate this exhibition if you used some of these machines yourself, they have been very well cared for!
It is worth knowing two things; these are vintage machines, so the handling won't be what some gamers might be used to, and there are waits for every machine. We went on a quiet day and I still found we were waiting for every machine with really poor queuing systems. Personally I found the wait/reward ratio unbalanced, but if you are really enthusiastic about gaming and/or are a patient child I think you will find it worth it. There are at least plenty of benches for companions who don't feel like queuing.
One thing I will say is don't bring your kid if you don't think they can be polite and share. I saw a full-on temper tantrum when a child was (finally) told he should give the queuing people a turn. On one hand, it is nice to see retro games so appreciated, but as a grown woman I didn't like that my access to exhibits was at the whim of whether parents could control their children.

Good small museum on coins and their production - very good intro section on what different metals are used for and why - copper, nickel, gold, tin, silver etc. Quite interactive. Everything had short explanations in English too. The best part was the treasure room where they had gold 'liberated' from Vietnam and silver from a VOC shipwreck. Quite a few kids there who seemed to enjoy it.

Very short exhibition and poor information on the history of the said machines... a lot of machines in "maintenance" and otherwise a lot of queues; As a result, there are tokens left at the exit. Furthermore, be careful, this exhibition is made for an audience who has known these machines and remembers how to play. For a younger audience, this can be very complicated and make the experience borderline unpleasant. As for the price in relation to the size of the exhibition and the richness of the contents, it is really very high compared to other exhibitions at the Monnaie de Paris.
To summarize, go there if you are nostalgic for café pinball machines or arcade machines from the 80s and 90s... Otherwise move on.

Bien cordialement

The temporary exhibition "Insert Coin", on the history of coin-operated gaming machines. This will take place in the lounges of the Hôtel de la Monnaie and will immerse visitors in a retrospective journey thanks to pinball machines, juke boxes, table football and other arcade machines, from the post-war period to the years 2000.
There was a time when a coin was an essential ingredient for a good night out. The magical tool to bring to life the pinball machines, table football and other arcade games that were available to you in cafes and gaming rooms. La Monnaie de Paris offers us a little journey back in time, to discover of this playful universe. Too bad so many pinball machines or games were under maintenance.

We wanted to see the exhibition "Insert coin", but as the available time slot was 1:30 later, we also visited the museum.
Interesting, informative and quite interactive permanent collection.
The pinball and arcade games were nice despite the wait to play.
For me it was also a nostalgia visit, with a return to the 60s, 70s and early 80s.

It is the oldest monetary institution in France, in operation since 864. Very instructive tour, with some notable pieces, and the possibility of cunning a coin, or at least try.
Currently presents the exhibition D'Or, d'argent et de Bronze, telling the history of Olympic medals. The store has numerous products, for all pockets.

Candlelight Louis Armstrong evening: very bad experience, no magical or intimate atmosphere. Fake spark plugs and extremely poor sound. Placement in category A (45€/person!) a real hoax as we were seated poorly and we weren't stretching anything (the musicians had their backs turned to us). Poor event presenter, speaking without a microphone and not paying attention to people telling him they couldn't hear him. In summary, don't go there, the service is oversold, the charm is not there and the quality/price/pleasure ratio is zero.

Website to avoid! Order placed, paid, order number displayed on the screen, after a day spent ordering a part on a deplorable website full of bugs!
Surprising for one of the so-called oldest institutions to have such an unreliable computer system!
And so a day spent trying to order only to receive an order cancellation email a few days later!
ASHAMED !

The place is beautiful, and the idea of integrating such an exhibition in such a historic setting is great and gives a boost to this Parisian institution
Overall, beautiful exhibition, of course incomplete. (4 to. 5 rooms only), quite a few machines out of order during the visit but there is in the end corner to take care of!
On the other hand, very disappointed by the shop that offers few interesting things, we can catch up on the shop of the Paris coin , very well stocked (nice medals for the Olympics, for example!!!)
In the end, exhibition and place highly recommended!
I'll come back for I. Permanent exhibition ++++

Disappointed by the temporary exhibition (Insert Coin), I expected to be able to test some emblematic video games (Pac Man, Double Dragon, 1941, Operation Wolf….) None of that!
However, some interesting displays and numerous pinball machines for fans.
The museum is interesting, a beautiful historical collection to discover.

Bien cordialement
