We took the two hour tour of Paris to get oriented and HARRY was great! These guides write their own scripts and he was very knowledgeable. Just as important, he was entertaining and kept the group moving and seeing the major sites, city plan and history of Paris. You pay what you feel it is worth and we certainly felt it was worthwhile.
This free walking tour is one of my favorite things to do in any new worldwide to get the lay of the land and the history. We've not been disappointed yet.

Pierre was our guide, and was very knowledgeable about the history of Paris, starting all the way back with the Parisii tribes and Romans. The tour starts at the Fountain of St. Michael, goes through the Latin Quarter and then makes stops at Notre-Dame, Palais Justice, Place Dauphin, Pont Neuf, Pont Des Arts, the Louvre and ends at the Tuileries. The tour lasted about 2.5 hours. Try and make this tour on the first day of your visit itself; you can use this information to plan your remaining time in Paris. One aspect I didn't care for, is that Pierre plugged other paid Sandeman tours at different points of the free tour; this could have been done at the end, rather than punctuate our learning of the city with these various advertisements. It hurt the mood a little.

We had Harry for the free walking tour and a South African dude for our Montmartre tour. This was my first time in Paris and the second for my husband. We both found Paris overwhelming. There is so much to see over such a large area. To add to this we were in Paris during the public transport strike. The walking tours are perfect because the guides help put everything in context. We found both of our guides helpful and informative. The free walking tour we did during the day but the Montmartre tour we did in the evening, which was amazing. We only had one complaint and that was about the way the loyalty points are collected. So far during our trip through Europe we’ve been on six Sandemans tours. Each time we couldn’t collect our loyalty points because we tossed the cards out because we didn’t realise that you had to save them and get them stamped. Wouldn’t it be easier to keep tally electronically, particularly whilst people are travelling? Apart from that, we’re so glad that we’ve discovered walking tours. You can really get in touch with the city that you’re travelling through, eat and drink as much as you want and still stay fit. Enjoy!

I did the free walking tour and the guide did at least 3 or 4 stops for the guy to tell us to go join their paid tours in town. In the middle of downtown, he would say that their Montmartre tour is the best thing to do next. Nothing to do with what we were doing, but they had to make sure they would get some more client. Tour finishes right at the entrance of their agency, where they tell you to go inside and buy tours if you like..

Hi Bruno P,
Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor and for joining the tour of Paris. We really appreciate your feedback as it helps us to continue making improvements and ensure that tours and experiences promoted by SANDEMANs NEW Europe meet the high standards that travellers expect.
As many guests use the tour as an introduction to the city, we do offer people the opportunity to purchase tickets for tours, experiences and excursions, should they find something that is of interest to them. We are sorry to hear that, on this occasion, you felt as though the promotion of other tours was too heavy, and we have shared your feedback with the local operations team.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us, we hope this experience will not prevent you from joining us again in the future.
Kind regards,
The SANDEMANs Team

We took a Sandeman 3 hour Walking Tour around the city, which shows you top attractions like Notre Dame, Louvre, Parc des Tuileries and many more interesting spot. Our guide & local expert Mr Pierre H. Daveux does these tours for the love for his city and I must say he is so informative, light hearted and great tour guide to show you Paris. He takes you around with such ease, carefully taking you around at your speed, sharing great insights about the culture of the city. You will totally love this tour, just take the stamina along and hop onto Pierre's group for this wonderful experience.

My brother and I went to Paris for a quick visit just after Christmas. Dawie was our guide and his enthusiasm (and bad jokes) made the rainiest and greyest day shine. Various historical points and stories learned from this great person. Even deliberations on Afrikaans, royalty divas from some centuries ago, pickpockets, free accommodation for wannabe writers, and more.
Dawie, I’m not expecting you to read this, but a super thank you from us!

Dawid was our guide and we were mesmerized from the moment we met him! I’m a history buff yet he brought history in life in ways that would engage anybody and everybody!
Dawid is an animated, intellectual, fun, responsive, well-researched storyteller. My husband and I loved every minute of the three hours we spent together.
We tipped Dawid very well because this free tour really put us in the right place for understanding Paris, especially given this was our first time in this magical and historical city AND the harsh reality of having just landed after an overnight flight. Lol.
We’ve been back in the United States almost 3 months now and we are still repeating the stories and fascinating facts that Dawid told us! He truly brought history alive!

We have just finished the free Paris walking tour with Dawie. We decided to take another of these tours after enjoying one in Amsterdam afew years ago.
Dawie was engaging, funny and thoughtful towards the participants managing to keep us all together even though there were 81 of us due to covid stopping him having a sidekick! Also good pointing out of the ‘cheesecake’. We enjoyed it so much we have booked onto the Montmarche tour this evening also with Sandemans!
Well worth a decent tip at the end!

Dawie was enthusiastic and entertaining tour guide through the streets of Paris. It was freezing cold and raining non-stop but this did not stop Dawie’s passion for the city. He took care of the tour group and ensured everyone crossed safely across the street, IG hot spot tips and gave us great photography tricks.

I last did the free Paris walking tour with this company about 8 years ago and remember that we walked to so many places that my feet hurt.
I had throughly enjoyed it however and so decided to do it again - just to see how it compared to my previous experience.
All in all, it was a good tour but I definitely left feeling that there was far more talking than walking.
The guide was very animated with his stories and knowledge and knew much about history, etc but I would have preferred to have explored more of the city as well as the above.
I suppose the tour does vary from person to person and is very much perception based, so someone on the same tour could have felt very differently to me.

Hi to all. Just found the info on these free tours. can anyone suggest what is a "fair" tip at the end? We will be 4 adults. THANKS

Paris Walks charge £10 for children and £20 for adults. Wonder who told Cathy L. that £10-15 (for kids) and £15-£25 for adults) is “less than what you would pay for a ‘paid’ tour”? What Paris needs is a free tour that’s free.

How many kilometres does the Paris Walking Tour cover? Many Thanks.

I never tracked the exact kms but if I have to estimate about 5km. Also note that you will encounter many uphills. It is not to bad or challenging though.

Ya destaqué el tour con Carlos, pero quiero destacar a Marta en Versalles y a Andrea en el free tour. Excelentes las 2! super recomendables. Aprendimos mucho y le pusieron mucha onda.

Would this be a good tour to do if you only have 10 hours in the city?
Shruti D
Mumbai, India8 contributions
Yes.. most definitely! A 3 hour introduction to the city. Then you can take out time and visit the attractions personally. You will have a better understanding what you are visiting. Also, if you want to do more popular attractions like the Eiffel or Louvre do get online timed tickets.
Hi, I've done various Sandemans walking tours in other cities and they usually include a short break for a sit down and a drink in a cafe. I recently did the London free tour and this had no break - not a problem for me but I am bringing my mum to Paris and think she might need a break. Does the Paris free walking tour include a stop anywhere? Thanks!

Our tour didn't have an explicit break either, but that doesn't mean that we were walking constantly. There were at least 2 moments when we were seated while the tourguide was telling about the French Revolution and Marie-Antoinette in particular and later once again at the court of the Louvre when he was telling about the theft of the 'Mona Lisa'.

Hi, Is this tour good for the group with children with age group between 8 and 13?

We did not have many children in that age group in our tour. There is a lot of history told along the way, not sure how much they cared for it. It is a great way to make your way around the city and see some of the popular sights.
