Neighborhood: Place d'Italie / Quartier Asiatique
Far off the beaten path, this part of Paris is a forgotten gem worth exploring. Avenue d’Ivry houses Europe's largest Chinatown with great Asian supermarkets and shops, and a thrilling atmosphere around Chinese New Year. Place d’Italie impresses onlookers as soon as they set their eyes on it. Not far, around La Butte aux Cailles, the streets suddenly imitate provincial France and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported. The beauty of these streets lies in their surprises around every twist and turn.

Shopping centre to one quarter and neon-lit cafes on the others. It does seem a quiet neighbourhood though as shown by my 3 night stay.Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten November 20, 2023

A fountain, some landscaping, a large Metro station underground, lots of big cafes arround. One of Paris's few skyscraper neighborhoods is adjacent. A mix of the very old and the very new.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2024
- MariaBoston, Massachusetts30 contributionsNice area to stay for a Paris visitThe area and surroundings were clean, and felt safe. There were a lot of quaint cafes and a nice variety of restaurants within walking distance of our hotel. The public transportation is easy to navigate and allows you to get around reasonably without breaking the bank on cabs/uber rides.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 6, 2024

We stayed in this area, for 6 days. First visit to Paris. Travelled by RER train then metro. Was simple enough!
Lots of cafes, bars and restaurants and 3 ( or more) metro stations that easily take you into central Paris, Eiffel Tower etc.
Eating in Paris is not cheap! A bottle of red is €25-45 and most mains start at €16
The metro ticket machines only accepted cards or coins and one ticket is €1.80
Wear comfy shoes - lots of walking in Paris!!

It's a crossroads with lots of big avenues coming together above ground and lots of Metro lines coming together underground. Also the site of a big movie theater and lots of pleasant cafes. Cool neighborhoods all around. We were here for Butte Aux Cailles.

A place without the slightest interest in my eyes except, perhaps, as a starting point for visiting the 13th. There is a world of difference between the photos in tourist guides and reality.
