The area

Address
Neighborhood: Ile de la Cité
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.

Henry's last wife Maria de' Medici ordered an equestrian statue of her husband next to the bridge, wanting to do something similar to the statue of Marcus Aurelius on Michelangelo's masterpiece Piazza Campidoglio in Rome. Not trusting the barbarian Frenchmen, the Medici commissioned a statue in her native Florence. However, the Florentines first made a horse, and then Henry himself for so long that Henry managed to die from the knife of the Catholic fanatic Rastignac. The statue was installed a year after his death in 1611 . The beloved king of the French, who wanted every family to have boiled chicken on Sundays, sat peacefully on a horse next to the Pont Neuf until 1792, when the French first sent Louis XVI to the scaffold together with his bad wife Marie Antoinette, and then to be melted down on the cannons of all their predecessors. Even Henry IV, the most decent of this company. After the restoration, the statue was made anew. The subsequent revolutions of 1830, 1848, 1871, Henry survived sitting on a horse.

There is a well situated equestrian statue of Henry IV the small Place du Pont Neuf on the western end of Ile de la Cite. This is the works of Fracois-Freeric Lemot in 1818, replacing an earlier original destroyed during the French Revolution.

Here you see a bronze figure of King Henry IV in armour and mounted on horseback facing the island to the east. It is a fairly typical equestrian style monument and sits atop a rectangular shaped plinth with bas reliefs on its side. It is a nice monument to see when passing through Ile de la Cite.

Note: If you enjoy seeing equestrian statues, there is a similar monument of Charlemagne a few minutes away just outside Notre Dame Cathedral. It is worth viewing as well.

This was the metting point for two of our tours on the tip of Pont Neuf.
Lovely statue of Henry 1V, with so much History on this small Island il de le cite the main attractions of Paris in my eyes.
Just be BEWARE there are many pick pocketers at the top of the stairs as one person in our tour group nearly had his wallet stolen.
And as I stayed near by for a week I saw the same group of girls in this vercinty on several occasions.
Don't let this stop you from Visting this Historic area but please be careful of your belongings and don't talk to young girl's who approach you with paper in there hands trying to get you to sign it, you will loose your valuables if you are not careful and mindful of this.

Walking along Pont Neuf I came across this great equestrian statue in honour of Henry IV.
Commissioned by Marie De Medicis for her husband Henry IV of France and the work of sculptor Pietro Tacca ,erected in 1614 ,torn down in 1792 during " The Terror " and rebuilt in 1818,it's a beautiful bronze statue showing the king astride his trusty steed ,it's a wonderful statue to view if you're walking along Pont Neuf.

located on the western tip of the Ile de la Cite, between the spans of Pont Neuf stands a monumnent to Henry IV commissioned by his widow in the 1600’s. The original was sacked during the French revolution and this exact replacement was erected in 1818. The statue depicts King Henri IV riding his trusted horse in armor.

This bronze equestrian statue is dedicated to the king of France who reigned, from 1589 to 1610, when he was assassinated.

It is appropriate for Henry IV to have a grand memorial here. Besides being one of the few kings in history who actually worked to improve the condition of his people, he was largely responsible for the brilliant Pont Neuf upon which his statue stands.
