It's not a very long street, but it is the heart of the traditional Jewish quarter. I come here for a falafel sandwich and everyone has their favorite place for that. I like the one with the red paint on the outside. You can eat inside or take your food to a park nearby. Some plaques to memorialize the tragedies that happened here.

* Jewish stores and restaurants, some of which have kosher supervision, and there are synagogues in the adjacent side streets

The street is characterized by several Jewish shops and falafel bistros. One of the streets you shouldn't miss on your stroll through Marais, my favorite Paris districts.

We come to this street for the falafel stands, and I have to caution you to do a little research to pick a good one because we made a mistake on our last visit. Still this street is mostly pedestrian and very lively. Some good dress shops here. The heart of the Marais and the old Jewish Quarter.

I first knew rue des Rosiers when I lived in Paris in the 1980s. Then it was a quaint little road in the old part of the Marais in the 4th arrondisement. It was part of a Jewish neighborhood, with an "urban village" feel. You know the butcher shop with Kosher meats, the cheese and wine shops, Jewish book stores, and of course fallafel stands. There were tourist then, but the street bustled with Jewish and Arab residents.
Now, upscale boutiques have moved in to take advantage of the flood of tourists who apparently all come to taste the wonderful fallafel and other middle east dishes. I cannot complain, that is why I go there to. In the 80s we went there for a quick, tasty snack. It is still a great place to sit down for a meal centered around fallafel and the various middle eastern meats. The area is not what it was - BUT - the food is still great.

This historic section is still home to the Jewish community. They were having the holiday of Sukkot. Lots of people in the street, beating drums, chanting. It was intesting. The neighorhood also had kosher food and jewish specialty shops. It was only a block or so to stylish French clothes shopping and more classic cuisine. La Rue des Rosiers is certainly worth a look. It is about 1/2 mile north east of Notre Dame.

This mostly cobblestone and pedestrianised street is one of our fave place to stroll along it is also home to our fave secret garden, which wouldn't be a secret if I mentioned it, it also has some amazing secondhand c however, this is a street not to be missed.

Located within the Marais, is one of our favourite streets not for food (falafel) which there is plenty of, but the ambience, as the crowds can be huge, (again especially at the falafel vendors), being orderly and respectful, of this lovely street and area, our fave go to place is Jardin rue Rosier, with a picnic, of fresh produce sourced from the various boutiques and boulangeries.

We chose our lodging near this street- in order to be close to it because of the access to Jewish and kosher stores and restaurants.
It is now a tourist attraction of sorts, and is a closed-to-traffic walking pedestrian mall. The street is narrow anyway.
We enjoyed wandering along the street, looking at all the stores- the apparel shops, the Jewish stores, the kosher restaurants and the ones that claim to be kosher (be careful- if that makes a difference to you).
We look forward to returning to this place.
