Built is 1798, this is one of the oldest covered passages in Paris, the nice facade has three statues depicting goddess Hathor. The interior has quite a simple design, lots of glass, to let light through. Nowadays it is used commercial for textile/garment wholesalers. Worth a quick look, being the longest and narrowest in Paris.

This covered passage is the realm of the fabric industry. Full of shops selling to the wholesale trade, not a place for tourists to shop. But the facade is interesting because of the Egyptian decorations from the Napoleon era when all things Egypt were a craze.

This very old passage is now largely devoted to the rag trade, the manufacture of clothing and wholesale clothes and fabric. Some odd architectural details from the period when Paris was fascinated with Egypt.

It is very interesting to visit in a group this passage. Organized by the tourist office of Paris, the visit also demonstrates that the passages of Paris do not serve that to the tourists or to those only idle and idle.
The passage of Cairo is not esthetic but typical of a district the activities of which are directed to the ready-to-wear clothing today. It is a passage not to be missed as all the others also, in particular the Passage Vero-Dodat which is magnificent him(her).
The passage of Cairo is different, certainly, but it also illustrates the soul of Paris. I agree with JPG677 who wanted certainly to highlight this Passage for demonstrate that are certain districts of Paris and their stamp(tablet), their charm.
On Mondays this sector is very active and the activity is there exciting

In August 2016 my husband and I undertook a walk that took in 13 of the Passage & Galerie of Paris. We love these interesting old covered arcades. Some are very beautiful and some are run down like this one.I believe that this is the oldest passage in Paris. It is very narrow and when we visited the roof was being repaired and it was very dark. The shops are very down market.

Impressed by the Egyptian original architecture.
Good experience and as good as the rest of the old city of Paris.

The longest of the Paris passage, it is not photogenic but features nice shop managers. The area is quite interesting, doesn't feel like being in France. The neighboring passage Brady is dubbed little India.

Not all the Passages of Paris are flash shopping strips, however they are all worth visiting for different reasons, this one has a very interesting facade and just nice to walk along.

Many of the surviving covered passages in Paris display fascinating shops, offer some excellent eateries and have inviting atmospheres. Passage du Caire is not one of them. But it does hold the distinction of being the longest passageway at about 1,181 feet, the narrowest (8 feet, 6 inches) and one of the oldest (1798). Though I have wandered through most of these early shopping arcades, I only got to this one recently, because I happened to be in the Sentier district, where it is located.

Rather plain vanilla, the passage has one major outstanding feature -- its large glass roof with a fish-bone shape. Other elements worth looking at are the three sculpted heads of the Egyptian goddess Hathor, with cow ears, which appear on the facade at the Place du Caire entrance. These and the passage name reflect the interest at the time in Napoleon's military expeditions to Egypt. None of the shops beckoned to me. They consist mostly of fabric and ready-to-wear wholesalers.

I do not recommend making this passage a destination in itself and it may not appeal to first-time visitors to Paris, who will likely want to devote their time to major sights. But it would be worth including on a self-guided tour of the covered passages to see how this one differs from most of the others.

The decorations of this covered passage date from the days when Paris was enthralled by Egypt due to Napoleon's campaigns there. Now the passage is largely devoted to fabrics and clothing manufacture.
