The picture don't do these twin fountains justice. The green against the gold is sooo vibrant. They are both on either side of the Obelisk from Egypt and in front of the Place de la Concorde. From here its like a center point and you can see the Louvre in one direction the opposite side the Arc de Triumph and near the Arc~ Grand Palais & Eiffel Tower! Construction near by which doesn't take away from the art at all.

Definitely worth going there and see up close 3 iconic places in Paris right in one spot and many others in the distance.

We came as part of our sightseeing tour across Paris.

A nice fountain at a very large square - very well maintained!

There are two monumental fountains at Place de la Concorde which flank the Egyptian obelisk. These are the Fountain of Rivers (Fontaine des Fleuves) and the Fountain of Seas (Fontaine des Mers) to the south.

These are the original works of Jacques Ignace Hittorff and were completed in 1840 during the reign of King Louis-Philippe. The two fountains are similar in chalice shape, form and composition with large stone basin pools, surrounded by figures of tritons an allegorical figures holding fish which spout water into the basins.

The fountains each have decorative figures representing crafts. The Fountain of the Rivers is dedicated to the Rhone and Rhine and displays figures of industry, harvesting flowers and crops and river navigation. The Fountain of the Seas, on the other side of the plaza, is devoted to the Atlantic and Mediterranean with accompanying figures - astronomy, commerce harvesting of coral, pearls and fish and navigation.

The two fountains are quite attractive and worth viewing, even during winter months when the fountains are not functioning. If you are visiting during the warmer months, they are a delight to view in the evening when lights illuminate the fountains.

Coincidentally found in midway between Louvre and Champs Elysee. The overall place and its history are beautiful and very interesting, but it is recommended to read about them and their history.

Located within the Place de la Concorde, stands this absolutely stunning fountain, (designed by Jacques Ignace Hittorff), this one is dedicated to the Maritime, Commerce and Industry within France. anywhere else and it would probably be OTT, however in its current location it is right at home, keeping the Obelisk company.

An amazing fountain with gilded figures on all platforms and richness in detail. We came across this on a bus tour and didn't stop, maybe another time.

The Fontaines de la Concorde are two monumental fountains located at the south of the Place de la Concorde. The fountain dates from 1840 and is meant to commemorate the maritime commerce and industry of France, but I found it hard to see how. The fountain is very similar to the other fountain in the square: Fontaine de Fleuves.

Located next to the obelisk of Luxor, the beautiful fountain commemorates the maritime industry of France. A similar fountain located on the other side of the obelisk is dedicated to the rivers of France. The multi-level fountain is surrounded by many beautiful sculptures. The sculptures and the fountains are covered in bronze and gold which give it a unique green and gold color contrast.

Definitely worth a visit.
