The zoo was an unexpected surprise. Enjoyed that the most. The views were awesome from the fortress walls.

Interesting visit, whether for older or more modern (Resistance) history, or for the zoo. The Comtoise museum is well done, too. Just a short (but difficult) walk from the old city. Consider taking the bus if walking up a hill is difficult.

First let me say unless you are a fitness fanatic, best to drive up to the citadelle car park, it is at least 200 steps and a steep slope from the centre of Besancon, as we discovered to our cost on a hot day! But...More

Interesting exhibit particularly the history of the rise of Hitler and Resistance. Views and walks on and about the fortifications. Zoo was rather dismal, however there were good views of the Tigers. Good place to get your 10,000 steps in.

The terrain can be difficult for handicapped people, especially the first...More

The place is good for kids. The zoo and fish aquarium is best in it, should have more workers and any cafe or restaurant inside !

The structure itself is amazing and the history interesting. However, the overall experience was disappointing for two reasons. First, instead of seeing on display what life was like during any of the early time periods, the buildings now house several museums, an aquarium, insectarium, noctarium,...More

You can park your car on Chamar park and take the bus or the little touristic train to climb :)
