The cathedral is both impressive and beautiful. It has important religious artefacts and a rich history. One can spend a pleasant and rewarding hour here.

Impressive cathedral from the outside but regretfully on Easter Sunday I was not able to enter in to the building. A first ever. What a dissapointment that all doors were locked

The ceiling and naves are unusual. The Astronomical clock is in a room beneath the tower. A quiet and peaceful church tucked away just beyond the Porte Noire.

Gorgeous cathedral located in a quiet part of town. Cathedral wasn't too busy on a Saturday afternoon. Seems to be very involved in the community and has catholic masses, concerts, and events. Check it out after Victor Hugo's birth house, which is right down the hill from the cathedral.

Built in the Gothic style with some Romanesque features remaining from its earlier costruction it interestingly features two choirs; one Gothic and the other Baroque on each end of the church. The interior also hold a Virgin and Saints by Fra Bartolomeo, as well as a beautiful astronomical clock dating to the 18th century.

Not one of the most famous cathedrals of France, but it has some really interesting features-- great paintings, 2 alters (one at either end), astronomical clock, etc. Don't miss it as you take the hike (or bus) from the Roman ruins (very neat) to the Citadel. Besancon is a fascinating city!

The cathedral is beautiful, but because of the differing architectural styles seems to lack unity. It has 2 altars and Rommanesque arches from the 13th century. It is located next to "Porte Noir" which is an originalimpressive Roman gate.
The incredible astronomical clock from the 19 century, with over 30,000 parts and 57 faces, showing all kids of information is located in a side room to the rear. It still works, and the incredible thing is that you can still touch it, and look at the mechanism from just a few cm away.

This cathedral features several side chapels in an array of architectural styles and an astronomical clock. It's nice to visit but lacks artistic unity and vision.

Just up the road from some of the main shopping boulevards in Besancon (and a short couple of blocks up the hill leading to the citadel) the Cathedrale Saint-Jean is worth a visit. Whether it's to see the astronomical clock the cathedral is known for (walk straight past the pews in the rear of the cathedral as you enter to get to the door for that) or admire the shrines in the cathedral itself stopping here is well worth the time on any visit to Besancon.

A nice cathedral, worth visiting while in Besancon. Obviously, there is no comparison between this cathedral and those find in major European capitals
