Open space
Jul 2020
This space is enormous, but the local municipal authorities keep it very clean and tidy. There are a couple of interesting statues to look at (Napoléon, and a Monument aux Morts that commemorates back as far as the wars of 1870), a bandstand, and of course a whole lot of bustling restaurants/pubs/icecream shops with outdoor seating. Great views of the comings and goings of the ferries in the new port. I also loved the quaint book-swap spot!

Difficult to miss
Sep 2019
Coming from the cruise ship it was a central point with information and interest all around. Great place to sit in the sun, see the sea and people watch. Lots of options to eat and drink nearby. Not a place you would deliberately seek out.

Good place for a cool drink and take in the Bastia vibe

Large open area close the docks. Tourist information and toilets at one end - approach to the citadel at the other. Lined by numerous bars and restaurants - take your pick. Suggest check reviews first before diving in!

Nicely Laid Out
Jun 2019 • Couples
A large tree lined open space facing the port, and obvious first place to visit for those getting off ferries and cruise ships. The Tourist Information Office in the corner of the square offered a less than warm welcome and were clueless to explain the ceremony going on just across the road, eventually saying it was something to do with war time resistance (having looked it up on google!!).
The square has several monuments to observe, all with useful information boards.

Whether it is or isn't, doesn't really matter.

Sculptures full of history and symbolism.

A monument to the Corsican resistamce from WW2, being the conning tower of a submarine that the occupying forces did not know about, LEGEND

Huge square facing the sea

with bars n restaurants on one side. You can also sit on several benches to have a picnic or watch people go by. Rather pleasant.

Beautiful square is a central spot to meet

Enjoy the beautiful view onto the arrival and departure of various ferries while sipping a cup of coffee or lunch in one of the many restaurants on the square.

Trees and ships
Oct 2018 • Couples
Fresh from the Livorno ferry, we had a drink here in one of the many cafes as our introduction to Corsica. The autumn colours of the plane trees contrast with the ships docked in the adjacent harbour.

Cafe Culture at its best.

Large Piazza opposite the ferry port for France and Italy. Great for a large range of restaurants and bars, a weekly market too.

Watch the world go by
Sep 2018
Probably one of the busiest places in Bastia worth looking around if only to watch the Ferry Boats coming and going.
