Don’t climb - get the mini train

Typical walled citadel with the cathedral within. Well worth a look if you like churches - the people appear the regard their religion highly.

Recommended for a visit, we were sad to find it shut! It's quite a climb up a wonderful staircase, if you approach from the lower level along from the port.

What else would you expect from a bastion in Bastia? Some nice features, like the sundial and drawbridge. Good views

Local pedestrian access and roads not easy for disabled

The main areas outside were accessible on foot and were amaze of side strets , and blind alleys and steps leading to nowhere . Keep a wary eye on your bearings

Good place for a wander!

Governors house and church dominate but there are narrow streets for a wander and views of the sea. Was extremely windy when we were there, so pick your day/ time if possible.

Lovely historic area with a museum, as well

I've been to Bastia several times in the last few years and always make it a point to spend time at the Citadelle. The views to the old port are wonderful, as is the view of Bastia and its hills. Make it a point to drop into the museum if it is open and you'll learn the fascinating history of Corsica/Bastia. There are also some nice little restaurants and cafes, though some are closed out of season. Wander the narrow streets, as well. It's a lovely setting.

Idyllic place

Napoleonic era houses and narrow cobblestones with a lot of history!! What's more? a couple of bar/restaurants at the end of the tour perfectly located offering a spectacular view of the city and sea. A very romantic place. Highly recommended.

Impressive and imposing citadel, with plenty of winding streets, things to see, shops to explore and refreshments.

Wonderful, wonderful views and good museum.

We walked from our apartment in Bastia, today, Sunday afternoon to the Palace of Governors that now houses the museum. Entry is free and to cover the place properly and read everything would take a bout three hours, bearing in mind there isn't much in English.
