9 euro if I remember right for a 60 minute bus tour with guided commentary, it takes you past all the main sights and is worth it.
Once the bus is full it sets off and it soon filled up as I was on a cruise and a lot of passengers did this, there is also a longer version but this was just enough for me to see what was around and get my bearings. The scenery was good and commentary informative when you could hear it properly.
I sat top deck in the sun, my advice put lotions on and take a drink as there ois no shade at the back, the front part is covered.
Worth the price for what it was compared to similar that have disappointed me elsewhere

90 min bus tour that highlighted Ajaccio’s sites – We saw a huge copy of Naploeon’s Imperial Crown over a busy road, an impressive cemetery, the Citadelle, Napoleon’s Monument, Cathedral Santa Maria Assunta, Parks and Plazas and so much more (sorry I forget!). Took a scenic seaside route to Iles de Sanguinaires where there was a 20 min stop to unwind and explore this beautiful area. Good, guided commentary but hard to hear when traffic took over at some spots. Reasonably priced, well worth it..

In short....We docked; we walked 50 yards from the pier head, got on a tour bus, enjoyed an English commentary whilst travelling on the coastal road and around the city of Napoleon's birth, visited a beautiful headland called Sanguinaires where we walked for around 20 minutes. We then got back on the bus and returned a different route to the city; it was all very interesting, comfortable and relaxed....overall taking around an hour and a half.
Then, back in Ajaccio, we walked around the French market (excellent as usual) went in the Cathedral, walked to a civic square where we saw a statue of Napoleon with his four brothers, saw another of him with lions around, enjoyed the ambiance of the French promenades and generally had a great time....Cost E10.....ship's cost for the same trip $61. No brainer really!
In contrast, other members of our party took a great tour from the ship...to the Tortoise research and breeding sanctuary, explored into the countryside and visited a distant beach....costly, but apparently well worth it.
My thoughts..,.do your homework and decide when to pay for the ship's tours and when to go it alone. Hope this helps you decide!

Cruise ship docked in Ajaccio. Decided we didn't want to go on cruise organised trip so took a walk to city. Saw a bus tour ready to leave. It was open top and fare was just €10. It took 1 1/2 hours and we saw a great deal of town centre and a lovely trip along the coast. We stopped at area , think it was called Sanguinaires for 20 minutes . The views here and on the trip were beautiful .

This is a great way to get an overview of Ajaccio and the surrounding area, It's conveniently located just outside the cruise ship pier and no reservations required. At just 10 euros per person for the 90 minute tour it' a great deal too. This is double decker bus, so definitely go for the open top deck. I'd recommend taking the longer 90 minute tour that makes a stop at the Sanguinaires allowing you to take in the views of this beautiful area just outside Ajaccio.

I stayed in Ajaccio for one week. I decided to take the bus tour as it is a good way of seeing the sights while also receiving a commentary. The town is not very large and the tour did go out of the town to a local nature reserve. The bus stopped there for about 20 minutes. It was a very peaceful location and I did return there later in the week on the public bus. I visited in November and the bus tour did not appear to be operating every day. I thought it was reasonably priced.

Nice drive along the coast for 90 minutes, saw the mausoleums for dead families and also some fish farms in the sea, not a great deal more to say about anywhere along the coast.
We had a 20 minute stop but not a great deal to see in that time.
Cost was 10 euros each.
A good way to spend 1 and a half hours.

The Bus driver was careful, we felt safe. We found seats under the awning, great views. The commentary was clear and easy to understand, both in French and in English. We learned about history, but other aspects of culture too. The mausoleums and fishfarms were interesting. A beautiful drive down the coast.

We took this tour and hated it. The bus driver acted as if he was trying to win a race and we paid for it. As he was driving fast through the road that takes you to the end where there is a castle or some sort of one, something hit the side of the bus. It was so scary that some people went to the bottom section. They give you 20 minutes when you get to the end which is not enough if you want to walk to the castle. As we were all waiting on the bus to go back, the driver was screaming on his cell phone about what had happened. I wish I spoke French to understand what excuse he was giving. Apparently there was a crane on the side of the road that turned and hit us. Maybe he could have avoided it by not going so fast and leaving space. We would never take this bus again. It did not feel safe and it was really a waste of time.

Ajaccio is not that big, or at least the part that most tourists will see, so is easily walkable. Completely flat along the harbour, where you can often see the cruise ships that come from Toulon, Nice or Sardinia, there are some gentle slopes in the old town.

Justo a la salida del puerto hay un quiosco donde venden los boletos para el bus, sólo aceptan efectivo. El paradero del bus está unos 10 metros de ahí. Tienen audios con varios idiomas, incluyendo por supuesto, el español.

Hi, were you on a cruise ship, how far from the cruise ship do you have to walk to get the bus?

Yes you can book ahead using the ajjacio website, but it is just as easy to hop on the first available bus when you arrive, I think they circuit every hour with a short or long tour ( 1/2 - 1 hour) available. The depot is an easy walk from the port, just a few minutes from memory and impossible to miss the big yellow buses at the top of the mall. also a town walking tour as a longer option

Is there a walking tour available in Ajaccio if visiting by cruise ship. What other good ways is there to see this town, other than the expensive ship tours? Thank you Sue
