This is an excellent option for cruise passengers. The Company is very accomodating and the self guided tours are of great value. Very professional and understanding Company. Highly recommended for adults, teens and young adults.

My cousin and I hired eBikes for 2 hours while on a cruise stopover. It was the best day of my holiday! The bikes were supreme and the service great. We were given a map of a suggested extra trip into the mountains on top of the coast road to Iles Sanguinaires and it was no problem to extend our hire. It was surreal to ride up steep hills in the sun without it being an uncomfortable slog, on a comfy bike with a big basket on the front line we were out shopping! Beautiful scenery, great roads, excellent service and bikes. Think I'll come back for a longer stay in Corsica.

Cruising the Med stopped at Ajaccio and hired bikes to do "Footsteps of Napoleon Tour". The bikes are FANTASTIC (with five levels of assit: on "Turbo" I thought I was on a motor bike!) BUT Ajaccio has a lot of stop start traffic and limited value trying to cycle it. We (my wife and I and two late teens) quickly gave up on the town centre and set off along the coast road: easy cycling and great scenery.
DO TRY THE BIKES , but look around the town on foot. (Directions: From cruise dock turn right (north) and bike shop is about a mile, still on sea front. . It's then about a mile and a half back to the centre of town (going past the cruise termiinal again) but keep going through the town and then cycle as far as you want along the coast road.)

Dear Victoria B,
Thank you for the review ;) That's true, if you're not confortable with the traffic, it's better to take the road along the coast :)
Hope we'll see your soon on our e-bikes for another tour !
Have a nice day and move happy !

I do not enjoy giving poor review and usually elect to go away quietly but in this case I feel it is important that future travelers understand what they are getting into:
1. No bike helmets available: When I inquired I was told that they are not needed in France. For safety reasons I believe they are absolutely essential when biking on narrow, poorly paved, mountainous roads with traffic.
2. Difficulty: With the assist of the ebikes the hilly terrain is easy managed by an experienced cyclist but anyone who is not very confident on a bike should not be on this tour. The roads go straight up and down with plenty of car and buys traffic. The guides do nothing to make it safer
3. The guides: I have been on many bike tours including Backroads and VBT and these guides were far and away the worst I have ever had. They were wearing flip flops, and seemed ill-prepared for the excursion:
-one of the bikes was not working properly as the e-assist worked intermittently. They refused to acknowledge the problem
-a stronger rider wanted to take the bike that wasn't working but the guide did not have a tool to change the seat height
-at one point the head guide took off quickly on a dirt road leaving 4 people to miss the turn. We then spent the next 30 minutes trying to find the lost group
-the area that we biked had no cell service and the guides had no way to communicate with each other or us. They did not provide route guides.
Overall this was a nightmare and I would only recommend this tour for strong independent cyclists.

As the AppeBike CEO, I can tell you that our guides have been through worse than hell with your group.
Since we launched this tour, our guides are still the same. and as you can see in our reviews, never, never, someone made complains about them.
Each day people (some of them are older than 70 years old) take part to this tour and live an amazing experience. I’m very shocked that you advised the guides that some people in your group had a hereditary cardio-repiratory disease… 1h30 after the start of the ride ! This is totally unconscious from you.
Then, as there is only 1 road, I still don't understand how you could get the impression to get lost. Moreover one guide was at the back and the other one at the front of the group...
Our high-end Bosch e-bikes used with you worked very well and have been used the day after, and they worked very well again.
Finally, I don’t allow anyone to insult my employees, even in case of something is wrong in the tour, civilized people stay polite. During all the tour, you shouted and uttered violent insults at our guides, you didn’t listen them when they were saying you which direction take.
Our guides made their best to finish the tour at 4.30pm (as agreed in your booking). So you were on time.
We don’t deserve clients like you.
Best regards,
Sébastien

Had a tough time finding our pick up spot. We assumed it would be an office but was just a bike stand where we met our rep. Bikes were nice but we assumed we would be handed a detailed map of the route but basically it was an info packet of places to see. Luckily my son and I decided to skip the historical portions of the ride that were suggested early on or we would NEVER have made it to the far away Perata Tower overlooking the beautiful Isle Sanguinaires. We are fairly strong cyclists and even with an E-bike did not have enough time in the advertised 2 hours to get there and take a leisurely but tough hike all the way up to the tower. We also wanted to stop on the return to take photos along the huge rocks in the sea but barely had enough time for that. As it turned out we were stuck for a good half hour in a heavy downpour after we returned where we picked up the bikes but no one was there and two earlier attempts to phone them we were going to be late or could not find them got us a French speaking voice mail. We were forced to ride another 10 minutes through heavy traffic to their office then were asked to return the bikes where we picked them up and someone would meet us there. So back we rode through the traffic. As it turns out they charged us an extra 2 hours which at least was one hour over what was fair since we did get back to where we picked up the bikes initially after only being an hour late. Not a good gesture.

Hi Richard K,
We're very happy to read that you enjoyed our e-bikes and Sanguinaires islands !
As explained in the tour description, we meet our guests at our e-bike station located at the Ajaccio tourist office, 200 meters in front of the cruise port terminal. There we give to everyone a book containing all the secrets of Ajaccio heritage with an itinerary you can follow on your phone with a GPS map. Since this self-guided tour has been created, all our guests made the whole tour in 2h. Due to the rain we understand that you were stuck during 30min. But in total, you kept the e-bikes 2h more, that's why we charged you the 2 hours extra.
Concerning the missed phone calls, as you can see in all other reviews, the support and kindness of our team is widely appreciated. Even in very busy days that we can know in august, we manage to answer to all our guests en quelques minutes. Sorry if we haven't been quick enough for you. We'll try to be even more responsive in the future. If you need more informations, please feel free to contact us at contact@appebike.com .
Thanks again for had the AppeBike reflex to explore Ajaccio in a green and fun way !
Hope to see you soon on our e-bikes and move happy ;)

We loved biking around Ajaccio City. The bikes are not what you see in this picture. No basket. We chose the bikes with fatter tires. They are "assisted" bikes, not like a moped, which worked out fine. The shop is about a 20 minute walk from the cruise port. I had to provide a $600 deposit, which I was not aware of. The streets are pretty crowded, but we eventually felt comfortable enough. The "tour" was just the operator telling us to "go to the castle and come back". We did ultimately really enjoy biking around, just a heads-up on these items.

The staff at the bike shop were helpful and friendly, setting us up on the bikes and talking us through the map. The write-up made this experience seem like it included a specific itinerary for the tour, but it's pretty much a map with some notations from the bike shop. The ride was great and there is tons to see. Be aware that you will be riding on the street for some of the trip to the viewpoint.

A sunny afternoon enjoyed peddling (assisted) around the coastline of Ajaccio up to the islands. Total of 24 Km (incline on outbound). Bikes performed well. Collection is outside of Ajaccio, free parking close by.

For this money they will rent you a bike for 3.5h and give you a map. The advice you receive is to go along the sea … Nothing more than that. Simple bike rental for 36 eur per person in a city what is not developed for biking at all. Awful experience.

Is the use of ebikes with the individual tours strictly limited to 2.5 hours or can we use the bikes longer and if so, under what conditions?

Hi, I'm going to Corsica next week, Ajaccio, Bonifacio and nearby cities. I'm wondering to rent an electric bike for me and my wife from APPeBike. Do they have any cycling routes including attractions like touristic points, restaurants, etc? Can we rent and ride by ourselves? Do they have guided rides? Thank you!
