Currently housing an exhibition from the Musee D’art Moderne which is being refurbished, the exhibits range from animals and birds to ancient pottery, glass and metal artifacts to ancient architectural exhibits and paintings.

Quiet eclectic museum
Jul 2020
Popped in for a visit while exploring the city. We were the only visitors, and probably were the only visitors for the entire day. The museum has an eclectic collection, ranging from stuffed animals, over statues from local churches to paleolithic finds. Some of the collection of the local museum of modern arts was on display (as the MA museum is being renovated), which was an unexpected treat and made the entry price (5.50 EUR) definitely worth it.

Fantastic visit
Jan 2020 • Family
We were the first visitors in the morning and had a fantastic guided tour around the fascinating exhibits. Our young kids loved the Roman and Celtic artefacts and the natural history exhibits were a bonus. Lovely, knowledgeable staff who couldn’t do enough to make our visit fun and interesting.

If you like small town museums

It won’t wow you like a big famous museum, but Troye has put together a terrific collection of objects of interest. A room of stuffed animals, a collection of pretty good art (hey, don’t mistake it for Le Louvre) and until 2020, the best art of the Modern Art Museum is on loan as the Modern Art Museum is being renovated. Also a good collection of prehistoric and Roman art/ objects including a few Egyptian items. Also a room filled with artifacts from local churches-gargoyles, capitals, stained glass, etc) Good chance to get a view of local historical items and great old architecture inside the museum as well. Musty and weird, but I like that. Not crowded on a rainy Sunday in May (oK-empty)

A mix of things
Apr 2016 • Couples
There is a section for stuffed birds. Interesting in that there were chick's, eggs, and some nests included. The next section has song mammals. The antelopes were interesting. There is an archeology section with some early carvings in stone. Finally there are the 1500 to 1900 paintibgs. Worth a visit but did not have the wow factor.

This is a huge building, but seems to have very little of interest in it. It is not open on Tuesdays.

A small but rather good museum. An interesting mix of art, archaeology and natural history in a lovely old building. The staff are very helpful too.
