About
In 1871 Eugène Mercier began an innovative project of digging his Champagne cellars: “Count in kilometers and not in meters” he told the architects. A few years later, visitors armed with curiosity were inspired by the discovery of no less than 18 kilometers of impressive underground tunnels! Come along yourself to discover the Maison Mercier onboard the little train and travel through part of our cellars!

- Lottiegirl_13Surrey, United Kingdom45 contributionsFun and bubblesGreat champagne tour and tasting with a mini train ride through the cellars. The audio tour (individual mobile devices) was really efficient. I learned alot and enjoyed reading about the history of Mercier in the lobby. Lots of fun, a very slick operation. Difficult to resist buying a box or 2.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 19, 2023
- JurgendbBelgium20 contributionsFun and educationalWas instructive to hear and see how much labor and knowledge is needed to make champagne. The guide Nelson was extremely good! Next time hopefully visit the cellars next time. So we have a reason to come back!Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 6, 2023
- Fiona SLondon, United Kingdom28 contributionsReally interesting experience/tourAn interesting, informative and enjoyable tour, with an audio guide in your language and a ride on a train through the cellars. Reasonably priced tours, with 1, 2 or 3 glasses of champagne at the end. We didn't book in advance, we just pitched up and got on the next tour. Eugene Mercier was ingenious and a true entrepreneur. How he built and publicised the champagne house is remarkable. Of course there is a shop too!Visited June 2023Traveled with friendsWritten July 1, 2023

The presentations are well put together and delivered by a knowledgeable guide. The tour of the cellars was a highlight on a slow moving train. We also enjoyed the tasting at the end. If you only visit one champagne house you can't go far wrong with this one.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 1, 2023
- Jim CSpencers Wood, United Kingdom352 contributionsMercier vast cellar tourWell priced trip of vast Mercier cellar which includes a train one of the few that helps carry perhaps some more elderly people. So they still get to see ot all. Knowledgeable guides and 2 of our party only spoke mandarin so we're afforded audio guides for part. Trip had the vineyards and hard to believbrhey would be fully ready in a few months. Finishing off with a taste of Mercier champagne poured expertly and knowledgeable person I think called Tatiana. Very agreeable well recommended trip.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 11, 2023
- selinalees20222 contributionsGreat tour! This was one of the most family friendly tours we’ve been on and yet it was still just as informative. There were some excellent animations that told the story of the Champagne house and the cellar tour was on a train! We did the vintage tour, so we had two glasses of Champagne, the standard and the 2002 vintage - they were so different and both lovely! It was a great tour. We walked from Epernay train station, it took about 15/20 mins tops. We bought a case of 6 bottles and got a set of 6 champagne flutes for free! This was harder to walk back to the train station! Would recommend this tour to all, but if you are going with children, this is a perfect option.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 15, 2023
- plgarlepiedNew Orleans, Louisiana1,523 contributionsNot worth the detourWe booked the 2hr “exploring the vineyards” tour (in English, that comes with 2 tastings) on line in advance at 40€ per person. The reviews here looked great but the tour itself was not 2 hr; but rather the entire visit, including arriving 15 min early to check in, get your tickets & read the very interesting history display boards. Then.. First part: begins with a short film (5min) then the train ride down in the cellar(handicap friendly due to elevator & special carriage on the train)~20min. You can hear the guide even in the back of train. Second part: walked just steps outside the building to view the vineyards while the guide spoke for ~5min(10 at most) Third part: 2 tastings with your group. All staff we encountered were very nice & welcoming & very good English. Very clean bathrooms & nice gift shop. Free parking in their own lot @ entrance. Guide told us the 2 glasses of our tastings do not put us over the legal amount to drive & they have breathalyzer there if you need it. We had a car & did a detour to come here as we stayed 2 nt in Reims. **TIP: if coming by train, I would recommend to just stay in Reims & try the Mumm tour right there in city centre(book on line in advance here too..fills up fast!)Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 20, 2023

We really enjoyed the tour - visited on a Sunday (you are advised to book in advance and it was busy when we visited). We opted for the Mercier Duo tour which lasts approximately an hour, includes the underground train ride around the cellars and then finishes with a tasting of two champagnes (everyone gets to taste the Brut Mercier but then you can choose between the Mercier de Noirs or the Rose for your second).
The train ride was brilliant - the cellars are so interesting and they are just huge.
It's not cheap at 25 euros per person but it was really enjoyable although their champagnes weren't for us (which was a shame).
A nice way to spend an hour.

Visit of Mercier is special and interesting for kids thanks to the little train.
Amazing caves; Mr Mercier approached excellent artists to embellish them for the enjoyment of his workers; what a man :).
We brought back beautiful posters of marketing by Mercier - so happy they had them on sale in the shop.
Excellent quality champagne served at the tasting.
Will certainly go back !

Mercier has marketed itself always as good champaign for a reasonable price. The tour is one of the cheaper ones along Avenue de Champagne and just as interesting. You'll be seated in a small train through the 18km of cellars which was hosted a car race. Just don't buy your bottles in the shop, they're cheaper in the local supermarket.

I was rather surprised by the whole area of Epernay and the Champagne story in itself. Never dove much into it all but this was an eye opener. We received audio guides for the tour which were quite nice, I do still prefer when there is a person explaining it all, however that is also difficult especially as our party had 3 different nationalities. It was really cool learning about how the area came about! Great for visitors who can't speak French, however it is a little pricer to only receive one glass of champange at the end (you can opt for more at a price). Would do it again.

Grtn Hilde.

The visiting times say 9.30 to 11.30am and afternoons 2pm till 4.30pm.
Can you go at 11.15 and do the tour or do you have to leave at 11.30 or is that just the last tour time in the morning ?

Réservé à 15h mais passé à 14h.et si ce n'est pas intéressant ce n'est pas du fait du personnel d'accueil. D'ailleurs on se croit d'avantage dans un salon d'aéroport que dans une cave.
