Normally I wouldn't review a tourist bureau but we dropped in twice to inquire about tickets to the Château de Chenonceau as the TI offers discounted tickets. When we return the next day to get them, a different agent asked my age and indicated that even bigger discounts for seniors were available at the Château so we left without buying them. And yes, seniors (and students) are about 25% less when you buy on site.

We visited Office de Tourisme de Tours to see if we could get some information on the best places to visit in and around Tours. The office was quite busy but the staff were quite friendly and professional.

This is just the review for the office and not for the tour that we book through them.

I used their website www.tours-tourisme.fr to book our day trip excursion in Loire Valley. The website offers several options across various tour operators. This helps you chose a trip which satisfies your liking - a one stop shop so to speak. My first real contact with them was when I needed to change my tour date by 1 day, I called them, the lady spoke English and helped me with my changes (I had a week or more to go). My last experience was when we reached Tours in the morning and walked over for our pick-up. Very simple, no dramas, everything went off smoothly.

I would recommend making use of their website extensively as it gives you information and options. For a tourism office, they do their job wonderfully. Also helps keep competition in check as all operators are out in the open. C'est simple. I have written another review for the tour company and the chateaus that we visited in another place.

My daughter and I had our hotel book a tour of four Chateaux. They booked it with the Office de Tourisme de Tours. We were told the price included transportation, admission to the 4 chateaux and a "picnic lunch". When we boarded the van, we learned that everyone else had bought a ticket for just transportation and paid 52 Euros while our ticket was 128.50 Euros. Once we figured out what the admission tickets cost, as well as the lunch, we ended up paying over 36 Euros per person more than anyone else in the van!! Subsequent emails to the tourism office have largely been ignored. I received one email from Simone in French but unfortunately could not translate. She has refused to answer subsequent emails. I would hesitate to use this company again, as their customer service is completely lacking.

I am really sorry that you do not keep a good impression of our services but without going into details, I remind that we supplied to you all explanations , and that we made for you a goodwill gesture But when we sell a package, we take care of reservations with the various providers, and we guarantee the good execution of the contract, also, you have to understand that this service must be paid. I would also like to assure you that we put all works that our services give to our visitors whole satisfaction

I had interacted with the Tourism Office over email to prebook an afternoon chateux tour covering Chambord and Chenonceau (operated by Touraine Evasion). The office was extremely prompt and helpful, often replying to my queries within minutes of sending an email. The tour itself was very well organised - we reached the office a few minutes before our scheduled departure time, were introduced to our guide/driver (the van was parked outside) and set off soon after 4 other tourists joined us. We only had a day in Tours, so decided to spend half a day seeing only two chateux - and I'm glad our choices were perfect. I think the full-day tours, can be a bit of an overkill, each chateau is overwhelming and deserves the 90 minutes we spent exploring inside and the grounds. The tour itself used a minivan, we were provided a portable DVD device to watch short videos around the sites while the guide also pointed out attractions along the way. The guide did not enter the chateux, but would purchase our tickets (available at the concessional rate for groups) at the entry gate and leave us to explore on our own - I found this a leisurely, non-intrusive format, with the tour guide really responsible for transport and logistics.

It's a very big Tourist Information Office and very well organized. Almost next to the Railway Station, it's the starting point for every booked tour, anywhere in the Loire Valley. You decide what you want to visit, especially the famous castles of the region and when, and you are given the booking documents and details. Usually there are changes at the itinerary. Which castle you'll visit first, etc. But be sure that you won't miss anything. The changes happen because the roads leading to the Loire castles, are narrow, busy and dangerous. That's why the tour companies use small vans for eight passengers and it's their responsibility to combine the passengers for every single castle.
Besides the excursions, hotel bookings and general information, the Office has some nice souvenirs too and plenty of seats to relax or to wait your next tour. It's an important helping hand and the staff are quick, polite and helpful.

A visit to the Loire Valley is a must and can easily be done from Paris. We booked a tour online through the Tours tourist office ahead of our trip. We are not keen on big bus tours so we chose a mini bus which is run by Touraine Evasion. This is more of a shuttle service so there is no commentary from the driver. However they do provide a DVD player that gives some information about each chateau you visit (though the DVD players can probably do with being replaced). The tour does not include the entry fees into the chateaux, however you will get the group discount.

We visited Azay-Le-Rideau (which is currently being renovated), Villandry (which has amazing gardens), Chambord (which is huge and is totally surrounded by nature) and Chenonceau (which spans across the River Cher). All of the chateaux were very different and just amazing.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and therefore recommend it if you are only in Tours for the one day like we were.

This is a large tourist office where you can make any bookings you like for the wine caves, the châteaus as well as clarify bus routes and times. The staff are very helpful and you really do not need to make a lot of bookings before you arrive in Tours - you can enjoy the city and decide what you want to see once you have looked at all the options the city has to offer.

3.5 stars. The TI itself was fine--had what you'd expect a TI to have (maps, info, etc). This review is for their "Touraine Evasion" partner. We booked a full-day tour of four chateaux through the TI as the train strikes going on in France during our stay made train travel more difficult. This was, essentially, a taxi service to the different chateaux. Our impression was mixed. One the one hand the van was comfortable (there were 8 of us) and air-conditioned; they absolutely did what they said they'd do, which was drive us to the chateaux and give us a set amount of time in which to wander on our own (typically, an hour to an hour and a half, depending on the castle). That being said, there was no effort made on the part of the tour guide (with whom we spent over FOUR HOURS in the van that day) to educate or inform us in any way, with the exception of a small audioguide they offered us that took maybe 10 minutes. When queried, the guide could answer some questions about the chateaux but did not know the answer to others, nor did she make any effort to answer questions with any depth or really to even converse with us in any way at all, though we all spoke English and so did she. It seemed like a really wasted opportunity on the part of the van service. Again, as a taxi service it was great. But it could have been so much more than that and just wasn't. It's possible we just didn't have a good driver.

Girl at the desk rang ahead to try and help us with our query. She smiled was polite and helpful. We were given info which helped us decide how to spent our limited time especially as we did not have a car and many chateaux are some distance from the station which is something that is difficult to determine without help.
