My husband and I have been on several wine tours over the years but I will remember more about this one than the others. Our guide, Christian, is an American serving as an intern at Pierre and Bertrand Couly but his range and depth of knowledge of the wine industry in general and Loire Valley in particular, are way beyond any expectation. Still, he was able to tailor his conversation to our level of knowledge and interests. It was helpful that at this family run winery, he is involved in many other aspects of grape growing and wine making so could bring the process to life for us. The facility itself is bright, comfortable and charming with hens squawking outside. Our tasting was very complete and included local goat cheese, rillons and rillettes. There was no pressure whatsoever to buy but we enjoyed their rose so much that we ordered a case sent home.

We struggled a little with a phone reservation so ended up just stopping by when they opened and Christian agreed to give us a tour when his colleague arrived an hour later. So kind but I think we were just lucky and recommend more planning. That said, we spent the hour in the very charming village of Chinon, where you may want to visit a cafe or walk along the river.

We visited the 'big red can' for the first time, having noticed it on previous visits to Chinon. Visited on a Thursday afternoon, no other customers at this time. Good tasting of their range of Chinon red and white wines and St Nicolas de Bourgeuil. Pleasant lady leading the tasting was happy to speak English. Prices slightly higher than other places in the area, and no organic wine, but what we tried and bought was good quality.

Lovely service & informative discussion on wines in Chinon from a man whose family has been involved in wine production since the 15th century! The wines we tasted, without charge,
were delicious and very reasonably priced. Loved it.

We had been in the Loire Valley several years ago, biking the back roads. Unfortunately, it's difficult to do any serious wine-tasting while on a bike trip. So this time, we asked a guide to help us identify wineries that poured characteristically Loire Valley wines. Our most memorable stop was at Pierre et Bertrand Couly.
We tasted six wines, all well described by an articulate and charming employee of the winery. The wines were all accompanied by freshly baked baguette and delicious rillettes and rillons. Merveilleux!
One drawback to visiting wineries in the Loire Valley is that it's not possible to take more than a bottle or two home. The added benefit of Couly is that the winery has a cache of its wines in a warehouse in California, which allows for its wines to be shipped to US destinations at a reasonable price.

Would highly recommend this tour and tasting. We did it with Veronique who spoke really great English, and was both engaging and informative. Wines were lovely and served with some rillettes. Really enjoyable experience! Brought several bottles home...la haute olive is divine :) Merci Beaucoup!!!

We were guests at the "Le Haut Des Lys chateau" and Mr. Paskal the owner which was an amazing host ( That's in a different review) recommended wine tasting at the winery and even gave us a double invitation for free.
We arrived at the winery that seats outside Chinon near the Vienne river few miles before it unites with the Loir river to one amazing river. A nice lady in the name of Veronique Dupuy showed us the winery with the big stainless steel barrels and let us taste six wines that the winery produces, four reds and two whites, she explained everything about the troir and the process of the wine making, she was amazingly patient and answered all of our questions. I hope Mosieur Bertrand the owner knows what a jewel he holds in his place. Some of the wines are great some are just interesting but overall visiting the place is a must in the magical area of Vallée du Loir.

We had a fantastic tour which was followed by a very nice wine tasting with lots of history about the wines and the vines. Will definitely visit again. I ordered quite a few bottles and we're still going through them now.

We booked a private trip to Chinon from our hotel in Tours. We were able to taste several nice wines with food pairings. It was a wonderful experience with great customer service.

Delicious wine. However make a reservation for a tour and tasting, so so enjoyable. We’ve done many, and both my husband and I got in the car at the conclusion, said this was the most enjoyable of all.

Another vineyard (see my review of Caves Pere Auguste) listed as being the best in the Loire Valley. I focused on the reds (my preference) but the owner convinced me to try the Rose. What a surprise, not what I had anticipated and eventually purchased a case of mixed wine shipped to the U.S. The Rose was superb with our Thanksgiving dinner.
