Do not what everybody else does, but hire a bike in Amboise and go for a 18 km trip along the bike-only-road. You will be surprised when you catch the first glimpse of the chateau, as seen from the opposite river bench.

Lovely walks around and by the river, a maze in the woods, fabulous vegetable and fruit garden, unusual flower arrangements in all the rooms, a lovely day and lots of photo opportunities.

It really is a beautiful place, and a must see if you are in the area. It's not cheap for a family of four it was about 40 Euros. To save a bit we paid for the kids (6 and 8), to have the audio tour instead of us, (works out cheaper). This meant that that the kids were entertained... More

The château is as all round stunning as you might expect. The gardens are lovely and more extensive than you see from the building – there is a huge kitchen garden of flowers and vegetables next to the old farm area, itself worth seeing. The situation of the château out over the river is just beautiful. Although some rooms in... More

We visited in August as part of a trip to the Loire Valley. Parking is good and there is plenty of shade - however it is very busy July and August so can be difficult to find a good spot. There 2 picnic areas, one open, one covered, at the edge of the car park. There were long queues to... More

I have always loved this Chateau. I have never seen the rooms since decades ago the only place you could go was into the gallery over the water. Now all the rooms are open which was extremely interesting and beautiful. My only complaint is the Chateau really needs to regulate the flow of massive amounts of people thru the rooms... More

Among all the chateaus in the Loire valley, this one ranks within the top five. It has a superb location in the river Cher. Facilities are also excellent: there is enough parking space and even picnic places, just outside the main gates. Food and beverages can be bought, but could be improved. There are some small gardens adjacent to the... More

Château de Chenonceau is hands-down the must-see castle in the Loire Valley, just outside Paris. When I began writing books about France, it was one of the icons of France and a locale I visited first. I've visited often thereafter since it's only a couple of hours from Paris by train or car. This fantastic, feminine, and gorgeous castle that... More

We had a great time , the gardens are beautiful, especially the maze which was great attraction for the children, There are also boats that you can take. A large place for picnic is also available.

Without a doubt the most Beautiful castle in the Loire region. Renaissance splendour at its most gorgeous. The gardens at several other castles are more Beautiful, but the sight of Chenonceau will always top any other castle.
