A cold reception in Chartres
Nov 2019
Maybe it was a mistake to start our day in Chartres at the Tourist Bureau. Although we were the only tourists there, we were made to feel that our presence was an inconvenience, if anything. How? No smiles, no friendly greetings, no “How can we help you?” Instead a frigid “Bonjour,” after which a single brochure was thrust at us, and the personnel got back to what to them was really important. We’re not sure if it was their iPhones or something else. Considering that the Tourist Bureau exists to promote Chartres, and promotion happens when the people doing it are friendly and enthusiastic, we would say that right now, they do Chartres a disservice.

Super helpful!
Oct 2019
We stopped here after we had already walked about the entire town, which was a shame as the worker was extremely helpful, telling us the best places to go in town and how to get there. Worth a stop, especially if you haven't done much research.

One of the nicest buildings in Chartres!
Jun 2017 • Couples
This is one of the nicest buildings in Chartres, very well preserved. The tourist office of the town is installed here, do not hesitate to enter for free city info and some souvenirs, the staff is very friendly and helpful!

Exterior Only
Apr 2018 • Solo
While the exterior is impressive they have sadly updated the interior. Go inside and you will find the tourist information center but not a lot else worth your time.

A stunning exterior, inside the tourist office
Mar 2018 • Couples
On a street parallel to the cathedral square, is this old building made out of wood, really a gem. It is in very good condition, but the inside in modern. On the ground floor is the tourist office located, giving out maps and information, as well as selling souvenirs. The person helping us was very friendly, knowledgeable, and ventured useful information before we even asked for it. She suggested a walk through the preservation area, and noted down opening times, for those sites not open all day.

A Very Old Building in Excellent Condition
Jun 2017 • Solo
It is a very old building dating back to 11th Century, if I remember correctly. You cannot miss it as it is the Tourist Information Office now. And it is very near the Cathedral, and is in the town centre. The building has a Salmon carved in wood in front and it was the place where fish market was held.

The Tourist Office, by itself is good, great staff, they give all the information you need in perrfect English. And they have nice collection of souvenirs as well.

I visited a couple of times, the exterior of the house attracted me. The building has a charm and is well maintained.

Hello, Thank you so much for your comment. The Salmon House was built during the 15th and 16th centuries. It's interesting to know that during the Middle-Age, it was a fish market ! We are pleased that you had a good time in Chartres and in our office. It's very important for us to satisfy everyone ! Hope to see you soon in Chartres ! Sylvanie Advisor at the Tourist Office

QuikStop for info about Chartres

Terrific, attentive staff. They quickly showed us what we needed, so as to explore the Old Town. The carvings on the front of this fantastic building are worth pausing to note! A few small (chess) tables on the nearby veranda then made for a perfect picnic-breakfast spot.
