About
At the gateway to the Loire Valley, the royal château of Blois presents a true panorama of the art and history of the châteaux of the Loire, making it the best introduction to their visit through its architectural wealth. Around the courtyard, dominated by the monumental François I staircase, an anthology of four styles of French architecture unfolds: the Gothic style with the Salle des Etats Généraux, the beginnings of Italian influence with the Louis XII wing, Renaissance in the François I wing and finally classical with the wing built by Mansart for the Duke of Orléans. Residence of seven kings and ten queens of France, the royal château is the evocative place of power and daily life at court during the Renaissance, as evidenced by the royal apartments, furnished and decorated with magnificent polychrome decorations.

The chateau is at the opposite end of an attractive and spacious square from the Maison de la Magie. You can buy combined tickets.
It is a magnificent castle with a long and interesting history, worthy of something like 3 hours for a tour. The ticket price includes a free tablet or audio guide to help with the tour. The tablet is pretty useless and the audio guide is the better option. The chateau is very extensive: the key elements are the history, the architecture, the stonework, the furniture, the décor, the paintings… Explanatory notices are in English as well as French.

We spent a very enjoyable morning exploring this beautiful large chateau. We opted for the audio guide which was very informative about the architecture and history and worth the 3 extra euros. The audio guide does not have headphones so one per couple worked well. Highly recommend a visit here.

This is another very frequented castle in the Loire Valley, this time in the center of the town. It is known as "the most royal castle" due to several French kings and queens, lived partially in the castle. In the centuries it was built with wings in four different architectural styles from different epochs. There is a set of beautifully furnished rooms.

Not only is this a series of 4 beautiful buildings with lively interiors, there are also lots of history and stories to read while you are there.

If you get tired then go into the square outside and have lunch.

Son et Lumiere also in English and worth a go.

The Castle was our beginning for the roundtrip in France so we started with low expectations. Therefore it was good. The rooms and the castle lost nearly all their furniture which makes it difficult to get connected to the kingdom time.
If you’re interested in architecture than it’s your castle as it has been extended within the different periods with their different styles.

If you're going on a chateau tour around central France then why not visit. If you are making it a destination, then don't prioritize it. It was a nice side journey of our trip but does not compare to other chateaus or perhaps even cathedrals in the area. We spent about an hour with iPad guided tours. If you want to have lunch make sure you complete your tour by 1pm because most of the spots close about 1:30.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Blois, the history and architecture through the centuries was clearly explained. We were lucky even though it was a Saturday that it wasn't too crowded. The rooms are very large. Alot is used as an art museum. The Chateau sits above the town. Do keep some time to wander through the streets and visit the Cathedral and church of St Louis. There is a market on Saturday morning. We parked for free at le creusille, just across the river which was untimed and had nice photo opportunities as you walked over the bridge.

We’ve been to a lot of chateaux over the years and would say that Blois is well worth a visit.
Things were well displayed and explained and we found the interior interesting. This is not always so.
What’s more it was nice and cool inside on a very hot day.

Did not have time to go everywhere. The main courtyard is very impressive. For me the best bit was the entrance tower and gateway. The main chateau square is also pretty remarkable set high on the hill
