It's such years since we last came here and it's still a great place to visit. There is restoration work going on at the moment which is a bit of a shame but presumably necessary, the entrance fee has been correspondingly discounted but there is still much to see. Our kids 6 and 2 found enough to entertain themselves without... More

So Much castle to visit around here, so we decided to visit for the first Château of Azay le Rideau. We a bit disappointed because was under renovation but overall still so stunning. I enjoy so much.

The moated chateau is the archetypal Loire castle. Particularly impressive outside, the current restoration work highlights many of its characteristic features: the view of the rafters and bat-homes is patricularly striking. And the scaffolding on the turrets - terrifying. It's less well furnished than other chateaux inside, but it's history is well-told and the views from various vantage points are... More

Azay-le-Rideau is like a glistening jewell-box castle floating on a lake. Smaller than some of the other grand Loire estates, it is nevertheless one of my top five Loire favorites. As a France travel book writer, I find Azay--and particularly the lush gardens and parklands surrounding it--a gem in the crown of the kingly Loire. I visited again just two... More

The castle doesn't show it's true colours at the moment due too large restauration works at the moment. Tarifs are reduced due to this. The inside is not a great visit, the outside is really pretty. The village surrounding the castle is cute as well. When in doubt, i would recommend visiting nearby Villandry over Azay le Rideau.

It is more the surroundings than the castle itself which was under construction (a part of it) and kind a pricy! But the outside areas, well, that worth seeing! The alleys, the water canal and the grass fields are nice! Go see it. See the city too , the city is even nicer!

We only got to visit the gardens (free) because of our late arrival, but even this is lovely and the park around this small beautiful castle is wort the walk. The castle is under renovations and the half that has been freshly uncovered is beautifully restored, the stone workmanship worth checking out. The funny, yet sad thing, is that the... More

A combination of high Middle Ages architecture and a forerunner of the Renaissance, this charming little so-called hunting lodge brings to life the reign of François I (a contemporary of our King Henry VIII) and his first wife Claude de France - herself the daughter of a King of France. Their emblems in art, the flaming salamander and the ermine... More

Our group of two adults and two adolescents enjoyed a guided tour of this château. At first, upon arrival, we were disappointed to see some scaffolding covering part of the façade. However, this turned out not to be intrusive and we very much enjoyed our visit. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. Don't miss it if you have time.

Wonderful to see a country taking responsibility for some of it's heritage. This chateau is a fine example of the restoration work that can be carried out to preserve such heritage if money is willing to be spent. Whilst only part way through a three year project the difference and pains taken work is already obvious. Congratulations to the fine... More
