We didn’t do any of the tours on offer here, just a tasting. We got to sample a large variety of wines from around the Loire Valley and the tasting didn’t cost. Wines were a little more expensive here compared to a couple of other places we stopped at, yet still so much more affordable than buying them back in the UK!
Our host was extremely knowledgable about the wines we tried. She asked what our likes and dislikes were and managed to produce samples of local wines that suited our preferences.

We visited in July, 2021 and got the owner Pascal as our tour guide. He is very passionate about vine as he had previously worked as a sommelier. The tour is full of audio visual effects and nicely done. We had a cheese plate at the end to go with the wine tasting and it paired very well with the wines we tasted which were from the Touraine area. The location is a short walk from chateau Royal Amboise.

We spent a lovely afternoon by the Loire River enjoying the views and sunshine. We had a bottle of Vouvray (2012) which was a perfect match to our charcuterie and foie gras de maison. We chatted with the proprietor, mostly in English, who helped us pick the perfect wine. He was helpful, funny and instructive about wine.
After our bottle, we had a tasting with the other proprietor. He did the tasting in English and we learned a lot and had a lot of fun. He loves NYC which is where my nieces are from so we talked about the US and wine. We bid our farewells after buying some wine and the UNIQUE Sancerre and Safron jelly!
A great way to enjoy wine and family!

I'm hoping it was covid but a poor experience. We showed up and no one was there. We finally found someone in the back and got a wine tasting. It was incredibly rushed like they wanted us to leave. There was little to no info on the wines. Not worth the walk out of Amboise.

For decades already this is an extraordinary place for tasting and share and expand knowledge about wines of the Tourraine region. My first visit was in mid-seventies (Père was still there, Fils was in the background somewhere) and returned innumerable times since. Always went home with a few boxes. The best wine ever that I was offered to taste was a demi-sec Vouvray Methode Champenoise; I can still remember the impact it had on me and my palate! I hope Fils Duhars is still in business and doing well; I have not visited last few years, but wish him and the Caves Duhard well!

Daniel was the tour. A wonderful character with a serious love of wines that made you try and enjoy his passion for the fruit of the vine

Massive disappointment to have experienced my worst wine tasting ever while in France.

The place was FREEZING COLD. By the end of it, and in spite of the wine consumed, I genuinely could not feel my feet or my hands. It would have been nice of them to warn clients before they arrive, as temperatures are always that low, even in the summer. The staff were wearing gloves and hats while we were trying not to freeze as they gave their talk. I woke up with a cold and a bad throat the next morning.

The white ones were very interesting, the red wines mediocre at best. Also, the reds were served at room temperature (i.e. 10-11 degrees: far too cold for red wine).

The food they brought out for 4 people wouldn't have fed 4 hamsters. You almost needed a magnifying glass to find it on the plate. When they asked me to cut each minuscule piece of cheese into 4 so that we all could try each type of cheese, I deeply regretted not having brought a scalpel with me, as it was rather challenging to cut with a regular knife.

Bottom line: stay away from Les Caves Duhard. I am genuinely shocked it's got good reviews at all.

We had a bit of a struggle finding this place since we came in from the wrong end of the road, but it was well worth it. Best place to park is down along the river and then walk up. We had a knowledgeable guide who alternated between French and English. The caves are ancient and interesting. There were stacks of bottles dating back to 1944. We had the "extra price" (5 wines instead of 4) tasting with a wonderful cheese pairing and our guide took a lot of time discussing not only the wines but the cheeses. We are used to California white wines, which are not typically aged, and were amazed to find that the Vouvray from the 1970's was not only good, it was the best white wine we have ever tasted. It was also very reasonably priced! We came home with several dusty bottles labeled only with tags hanging from their necks.

This is not a true vineyard, barely even a vinter. Only for the truly wine obsessed and lovers of ancient reds. Just not for me.

This tour is inside some tunnels along the Loire. The grapes are grown elsewhere and brought here for processing. So the focus is all about making the wine. Special things included getting to smell and identify additives and hearing about the wine history of the area. We did a wine and cheese tasting following the tour which was very nice. They also sell some items in a shop--the French mustards were excellent! One special note- we went to the early tour and found no one else had booked in the morning, so we had our own private tour! It is cool inside the tunnel. I had a light jacket, but they gave us warmer shawls to wear as well.
