At the invitation of Francis I, Leonardo da Vinci came to live at the Château du Clos Lucé and stayed here for the last three years of his life, devoting himself to perfecting his inventions. Leonardo was prolific and inspired, working as an engineer, architect and theatrical director, organising lavish festivities for the Court. At his residence 300 metres from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a model château for Francis I in Romorantin and designed the double-helix open staircase in the Château de Chambord. The Château du Clos Lucé is dedicated to showing and explaining to the public the great knowledge acquired by the Italian Maestro.

We planned to visit Clos Luce for an hour or two and spent the entire day there. The building, displays, and adjacent gardens are lovely, informative and just plain amazing. A must see, IMHO.

Walk through this enchanting home of Leonardo Da Vinci and see the wonderful furnishings and inventions of this great man! Parking is an issue and it’s a steep climb through winding streets to get there but we’ll worth the effort.

This was the home of Leonardo da Vinci, built in 1471. It really is amazing, just walking through all the rooms, and in one room in the basement showing models of all his inventions. You can see his bedroom where he spent the last 3...More

Would recommend as a supplement to the Chateau Amboise. Easy walking distance from one to the other. We got student discount for one in our party even though forgot student identification. Not huge but interesting.

Loved touring here & learning about da Vinci. Good descriptions even for those of us with limited French. Gardens beautiful. Lovely lunch too.

No problem. Lots of places in the gardens to sit and eat. We didn't do it ourselves but saw lots of others picnicking and wished we had too.

There are a small number of free spaces just down the road, next to a new pay parking area, which is not too expensive. There are signs to the chateaux from the ring road, and we found it easily.
