The trail was historic and a very nice way to see the old part of town, but the path was very vague and from what i remember the book you get to lead you through the path you get half way. This is very impractical...More

Some of the new roads are left without owls, breaking up the trail. All in all, it's a great way to see everything in the city, but it's a long walk and you keep coming across the same places. I like the concept, but the...More

I live in Dijon. It's not really the perfection way to discover the town. A bit too long. Some places are not very nice but you'll see more or less most of the best places.

We took much of the trail on a cold, sunny day. It is easy to follow because there are many owls on the street. We had the free brochure from the tourist office and purchased a more extensive book there. This is a good way...More

Yes you can :) As Steveca32 and Paul B said, that's a street walk and you won't be allowed Inside of some buildings or shops.

Hello Paula The market is 4 days a week: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Thursdays the market is inside only but the other 3 days it's spills out on the streets and it's truly remarkable!

Itinerary advice please.... (2 Replies)
We have only 3 nights in Dijon in September is at the end of our 3 week France trip. We want to get a real taste of Dijon and the surrounding area - this is what I had mapped out : Day 1- we arrive in Dijon from Avignon, aiming for early afternoon (via train). Do the Owl Trail that afternoon. Day 2 - collect rental car and drive to Beaune, visiting the Hospices de Beaune, then drive to Pouilly en Auxois and hire some bikes for a few hours to bike along some of the Burgundy Canal towpath....More

Not sure if you really need that rental car on day 2. You could take a quick train ride to Beaune, do your sightseeing there, and then rent bikes right in town for a ride into the vineyards and nearby villages. Then train back to Dijon in the evening. We'd planned a bike ride thru the vineyards but the weather during our late-October visit didn't cooperate. This is the company we'd planned to use, see the many great reviews: tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g187109-d5… We loved...More

Paris + Burgundy (Beaune Base) Itinerary Draft (9 Replies)
Here is my draft 1 itinerary of Paris + Burgundy (Based in Beaune). Please give me some suggestion! Thank you! May i add, we don’t drink so we won’t spend time visiting vineyards sadly. Paris: 4-5 days Burgundy Day1: Pick up car from CDG and drive into Burgundy / Overnight in villages near Beaune (cheaper than in Beaune I read- true?) / Take it easy or explore nearby lunch & dinner. Burgundy Day2: Drive to Dijon town / Abbaye de Fontenay / Churches Burgundy Day3: Back in Dijon for Owl...More

You'll be backtracking by starting out with Beaune instead of Dijon, where there is much to see and enjoy. There's a lovely large park for your toddler. So start out in Dijon, then move south to Beaune. During your time in Autun, drive up to the fine overlook. Be sure to see the Ghiselberti carvings on the façade of the cathedral. If the steak/grill restaurant is still there, opposite, enjoy a meal. You might consider staying near Beaune in the hamlet of Bouilland. It's about a...More

The Owl's Trail on the way to Beaune? (6 Replies)
My mother, aunt, and I will be travelling to Beaune from Paris for 2 nights this July. We will take the train from Paris into Dijon (arriving at around 1pm) and then change trains to go to Beaune. I'm wondering if it's worth taking a few hours to wander around Dijon before continuing on to Beaune, perhaps using the Owl's Trail brochure? I know this is not a lot of time to do Dijon justice, but I am just wondering if it would still be worthwhile or not? Also, we plan to buy our prem tickets...More

I would recommend the Owl's Trail if you just want a feel of Dijon as it is very different from Beaune. It is very easy to but tickets from Dijon to Beaune just check the price difference. Buying train tickets in France is always a nightmare as there are always so many options available.
