The archdukes at the base of this beautiful palace also all appear in Flemish history books. After all, they ruled for a full century (1384-1482).
The names are well known to us: Philip the Bold, Philip the Good (Philippe Le Bon), John the Fearless and Margaret of Austria, they all contributed to prosperity in our region.
Many of them are buried in this exuberant palace.
The building and the square in front of it are gigantic, there are two courtyards and the old Tour de Philippe Le Bon crowns the whole.
Today the building houses the Town Hall, the Museum of Fine Arts and much more.
You can get free access to this palace through the latter museum. Definitely do it because it is certainly as beautiful inside as outside.

Spent a few hours in Dijon and more than enough.
Nice spacious parking lot in the middle of the city, but to get there, there is heavy traffic.
The city itself is not that special, a few beautiful buildings and the arc de triomphe (small).
Some squares and terraces.
Ate in a small restaurant but forgot the name, it wasn't too bad (cold red wine again!).

Imposing great building with half round square in front, but only the tower is to visit after contacting the tourist information.
The inside courtyards are open for the public. Soem statues and a waterwell. Outside is the statue of Phillips the Good of Bourgondie.

This is a typical historical trip in France -- see how the rich lived a long time ago. Still, the building and the art collection is worth a visit. Best, the joint is in the center of Dijon, so it's handy for a quick stop.

The palace is a must see if you are in Dijon. Not as grand as the national palaces but extremely interesting and a terrific insight into how the Dukes of Burgundy lived.

The Palais des Ducs is a grand group of well preserved Gothic buildings, dating from the 14th to 18th century.
It is the main sight in Dijon city and not to be missed.
The key buildings are the loggia on Pl. de la Liberation, the ducal kitchens, the tour de Philippe le Bon and the the palace itself which houses the Musee des Beaux - Arts and Hotel de Ville.
Entrance is free.

Free entry .,but make sure the rooms you want to see are open. A great deal of work is going on in the interior of the Palace.and some rooms were closed.when we visited.
I took a group of 25 adults to see the tombs of the Dukes of Burgundy.Absolutely beautiful, a must see when visiting Dijon. My group were spellbound by the craftsmanship and magnificence of the tombs..
Lots of other wonderful exhibits, paintings, sculpture and some beautiful religious artefacts.
Nice little coffee shop, reasonably priced. The toilets are extremely difficult to find so allow plenty of time!!!.

A visit here gives one a glimpse into the splendour and opulence of the Dukes of Bourgogne. Paintings and magnificent tombs require some time to truly appreciate their history. Unfortunately, we were short on time so did not have this luxury. However, definitely worth a visit no matter how rushed.

Very surprised.. We didn't expect such an amazing palace.
The squire in front of it full of restaurants and cafes which we had our lunch there.. And the kids enjoyed running between the water fountains in the middle of the squire.

avendo pochissimo tempo a disposizione ho potuto vedere il palazzo ducale solo dall'esterno. Qualcuno mi saprebbe dire quanto può durare la visita del palazzo compreso il museo di belle arti ?
