My husband and I never thought of ourselves as cruise-customers. We like exploring a new place and typically are very hands-on when it comes to our vacations. S when some good friends asked us about joining them on a small boat (3 couples only)! for a river cruise in southern France, we paused for a long moment before saying yes. I'm so glad we did. Because: 1. It was one of the most relaxing weeks we've had on vacation. Beautiful countryside seen at a serene pace. 2. We explored as much as we wanted -- vineyards one day, biking the canal route the next, exploring the towns and villages to our heart's content. 3. The food was just terrific. Lunch on the boat with butterflies and birds accompanying us, sundowners pretty much every day. It was healthy, lovely and delicious. And I never had to consult the reviews, make the reservations or anything else. Lastly, the time to just hang out and talk with our friends was truly delightful. When does languid conversation ever happen in our real lives? We could come back to topics we had left the night before; update each other on the books we were reading; process once again our children or our professional angsts. It was a rich experience on every level. The Grand Victoria boat is fabulous. The bedrooms plenty spacious, the baths were new and very well designed. The staff is incredibly accommodating; and the owners: Edward and Cindy could not have been better about making sure this was the best vacation we could have. They were present to all of our requests and comfortably made adjustments as our interests and itinerary as needed. We couldn't have been happier. Well, well worth the investment of time and money.

I had the privilege of being a guest on the Grand Victoria with my mom and my sister. I was a novice to the barge experience and could not have been more fortunate to have had Edward, Cindy, Alex and their amazing crew at the helm of such a glorious adventure! From the moment I stepped on the barge I felt a sense of calm and knew we were in the best of hands. Cindy’s meticulous attention to detail of the interior and her innate sense of knowing how and when to meet her guests’ every need was truly remarkable and so appreciated. Edward’s thoughtful planning of fascinating day trips along the barge route and his incredibly vast knowledge of wine made every day something to look forward to and gave us memories to treasure forever. We ate some of the best meals we have ever eaten and were spoiled with decadent desserts at lunch AND dinner! We owe Edward, Cindy and their crew a million thank yous for giving us a trip we will never forget. When the trip ended we all cried, not only because something so wonderful had come to an end, but because we would truly miss these beautiful people who felt like family. I would give anything to be back on the Grand Victoria and would book another trip in a heartbeat!

My husband and I have been "barging" for many years, initially booking cruises on different barges until we had our first trip on the Grand Victoria, at the time known as the Hemingway, in 2016. Since then we have returned each year, through 2019, to the Grand Victoria as it is, by far, the most elegant and well run barge on the French canals. It begins with the owners, Edward and Cindy, as well as the crew, who give their 'all' to provide an unforgettable experience: from the cabins - spacious, and tastefully decorated - to the very comfortable , and charming lounge and dining areas - to the relaxing deck space outfitted with outdoor furniture as well as a table for dining - to the gourmet meals catered to guests' tastes - to the diverse onshore excursions through beautiful countryside, small villages, markets and wineries, again crafted to guests' interests. It is also the small touches of fresh flowers on tables and bedrooms, a jar of macaroons waiting to be sampled, exquisite table settings bathrobes and so much more that single out the Grand Victoria as the best of all barges, It is Edward and Cindy who work tirelessly to provide a unique and memorable trip of a lifetime - one worth repeating! We are looking forward to booking again on the Grand Victoria as soon at it becomes possible to travel again!

I had the pleasure of vacationing on the Grand Victoria in October 2019. It was truly a dream trip from the moment we walked on board to the moment we left. We cruised the River Saone and made stops along at beautiful, quaint towns. The barge itself was immaculate with an incredibly comfortable and cozy seating and dining area. The outside seating area was fabulous with comfortable lounging chairs and a sofa. We enjoyed relaxing out there as we cruised the river, admiring the sights of the French countryside. My roomy cabin held a king bed with the softest sheets and perfect pillows. Each cabin has its own bathroom, well equipped with a powerful shower, fluffy towels, and great bath products. Dining on the barge was a wonderful adventure at every meal. The chef was creative and offered up some of the most delicious meals I have ever had. We also immensely enjoyed the local wine selection and Edward was happy to share his vast knowledge of wine with us when we asked. Edward and Cindy were fantastic hosts - creating expert daily itineraries based on our interests. We loved each and every stop along the river. The hosts’ knowledge of the area is remarkable and we got to see things we definitely wouldn't have had we been on a much bigger cruise. Edward, Cindy and their staff made sure we were happy at all times and bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. In all, this was a trip that I will never forget with memories to last a lifetime. I cannot recommend the Grand Victoria enough.
