The Notre-Dame de Beaune basilica is a canonical ensemble from the 12th century located in Beaune in the Côte-d'Or. This collegiate basilica is one of the last great Romanesque churches in Burgundy. Its construction was completed at the beginning of the following century while retaining a remarkable stylistic unity. It got classified as a Historic Monument by inclusion on the list of historic monuments of 1840. The convent building (presbytery), meanwhile, has been listed as a historic monument since May 26, 1926.

What is special about this church is the open front building, consisting of 3 pointed arches, which you must first enter before reaching the church entrance. Inside, this fairly austere but clear church building is also special because of the dome above the altar. And the 2 very low towers also stand out.

The Notre-Dame de Beaune collegiate basilica is one of the last great Romanesque churches in Burgundy. Its construction was undertaken in the middle of the 12th century on the Cluniac model and was completed at the beginning of the following century while retaining remarkable stylistic unity. The basilica is very imposing (large volumes) and its Gothic style is very interesting. To see

This church is really pleasant with in particular in a side chapel the presence of a black virgin with a somewhat oriental style, the altar overlooking the choir is imposing, as is the organ placed as often at the entrance. In addition, you can leave the church and come across very pleasant little gardens for strolling

This is a large cathedral for a small town and is quite dark inside. Look out for the stained glass windows and the tapestries just behind the altar. We heard the organ playing and it sounds as if it could do with a service.

Despite its relatively modest size, the Cathedral Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-Beaune is one of the last great Romanesque churches in Burgundy. It was completed in the XII century. However, the cathedral could not maintain stylistic unity. Changing the windows after the fire, they were replaced with Gothic ones. The flying buttresses who also hails from Gothic. The famous Viollet-le-Duc had a hand in the cathedral, drawing up a plan for its restoration. The creator of Carcassonne and Pierrefonds was able to give a medieval appearance lost by the XIX century, or add if it was not originally there. However, it was not he, but his son-in-law Maurice Ouradou who carried out the restoration along with the Hotel Dieu.

Basilique Notre_Dame de Beaune is a wonderful part of Beaune's architectural history.
Situated in the centre of the old town it is more ornate from outside than inside.
Worth a visit.

I was simply astonished finding so nice series of tapestries about Virgin Mary life, with different episodes including Jesus trimming (I never saw something like this is Christians painting or tapestry). It's really amazing in the morning (open from 10 AM), when the sun shines nice and help you to see these amazing tapestries better. It's a real gem!!!

The exterior of the church was impressive. Once inside was a bit disappointing, but for a town the size of Beaune was still a nice church to spend a few minutes in.
