Just a stroll through but quite amazed

There is a tourist trail that takes you to all the relevant parts of this really old town - you follow the triangles set in the pavement. We didn’t have much time but will certainly be returning- what a town!

Auxerre old town
Oct 2019
Very interesting old town - the streets are very narrow and there are some interesting shops hidden away as well assome half-timbered houses.

Very attractive old town.

Auxerre is a real gem - another of those gorgeous French towns that is so pleasant just to meander around; lols of individually attractive and interesting old and timbered buildings and nice shops. We were there at Xmas and the town streets were lined with dozens (hundreds?) of (real) Xmas trees, all decorated in different colours - a really lovely and unusual sight. (I wonder how long they would last where I live....)

A Relaxing Stroll In The Vieille Ville
Oct 2019
We spent between one and two hours meandering through Vieille Ville. While I didn't observe anything notable, I did enjoy the experience.

Lovely French Town
Sep 2019
Visited September, warm and dry but not too hot. Stayed near river and got the guide book from the tourist office to follow "in the steps of Cadet Roussel". It'll show you everything , maybe a timber framed building too many!

Beautiful Medieval City
Sep 2019 • Couples
Beautiful medieval city with half-timbered houses, churches and winding narrow streets. We stayed at the Ibis near the Yonne River and walked into the city. The tourist office is along the river on the way into the city. If you are in good physical condition you can walk into the old city. There are shops, an astronomical clock and outdoor cafes in the center of town. The abbey is a short walk away and houses an interesting free museum going back to Roman and the Morovingian Dynasty as well as exposed excavated crypts. Quite interesting if you have time.

Another medieval wonder - too hot to see it all!!
Jun 2019 • Couples
From the banks of the river Yonne and up to the cathedral and abbey the old town presents a maze of little streets and alleys with ancient stone and half-timbered houses abounding. On the day we visited it was hot and humid (29C) and we lacked the energy to take it all in. It was lovely to see the little children by the river playing in the fountains - if only we were young again! We parked right by the river (metered, cheap) and walked up to the abbey and cathedral. Restaurants and cafes are present to satisfy one’s hunger and thirst, and the tourist office is right on the quay.

Strolling down the streets of the old city is such a great trip back to old times & history. Enjoying the old architecture and narrow streets is easy.

Interesting town and river walk
Jan 2018 • Couples
We enjoyed wondering around this town, full of historuc streets, old timbered buildings and many little shops. The walk along the river was very pleasurable with views of the cathedrals, bridges, biots, swans and city views. We travelled in early January so it was dark and cloudy and the plants were not out in flower, but still a pleasant day out seeing a new town!
