Home for the retired seaman, Jacques Cartier who journeyed (and overwintered) into the Saint Lawrence River - an incredible feat for the time. A short drive/bus ride from the walled city, the grounds are restored and there is an hour long tour and short movie...More

When my wife and I were in grade school during the late 60s/ early 70s our history classes were focused on early Canadian exploration and specifically Jacques Cartier. This was a must see site when we started planning our trip to France. Thoroughly enjoyed our...More

This is a historic house where the founder of French Canada lived after his voyages. We enjoyed an excellent guided tour covering Cartier's voyages, daily life in the 16th century, and the techniques of navigation in Cartier's time.

As a North American the name of Jacques Cartier is a magical one for the age of discovery and exploration. His quite magestic home doesn't disappoint either. Excellent guidebook & films are quite helpful, and necessary, for those not fluent in French. Enjoyed seeing his...More

Jacques Cartier ? just to show my ignorance... he was an explorer who discovered Canada. Nice morning visit, interesting house, amusing English speaking guide. Cant help thinking they are missing a trick because there is nowhere to get a drink or snack.
