I guess you have already seen places described asbeing the one of the best, and probably found out that the hype was unjustified.

So when I read that the Thabor park is one of the most beautiful gardens in France my first reaction was one of disbelief ("yeah right").

But what a great surprise it was! The gardens are rich in color, great to spend time in, and stunningly beautiful. It has the flowers you would expect but will surprise you with sequoias. Each area within the park has an individual look.

The rose garden has an added attraction - reading the names of each type of rose is a journey in time jumping from nobility to celebrities to some very funny names (there is a really big rose there, check out how they call it).

Set aside at least one hour to enjoy this place. It is worth it.

We visited the park with family. It is a very pleasant park and had a small exposition of local artists in one of the buildings. We could not really see the wildlife as the buildings (Aviaries mainly) were closed to the public. Amateurs of Roses would be in heaven, as the park boasts the biggest selection I have seen in a long time. Very pleasant walk, but very busy on a sunny day with huge amounts of students and people partying/picnicking.

After visiting the main sights in central Rennes, we took a leisure walk through this pretty big central city park.
It looked gorgeous even on a cloudy November day with so much greenery, still some flowers, waterfalls and ponds,...it was a pleasure to sit there and enjoy it summing our impressions on Brittany's capital.
I could only imagine how it looks like in spring in full blossom.

Visited on a hot sunny day . Gardens are immaculate and the variety of trees exceptional. Play park area for the young children and the duck pen was fun. Not sure what the large glass greenhouse area is for , but it was closed.

The Park is quite central. Only about 5-10 min walk from the parliament building and Main Street. It's so peaceful. A lovely Avery as well if you like birds. Really big playground for the kids. It's a great place even for a solo stroll.

The Parc du Thabor is one of the most beautiful gardens in France.
It opens at 7:30am and closes at 6:30pm.
It spreads out over 10 hectares. There is a romantic and elegant atmosphere there.
it boasts French-style gardens, an English-style park, a cave and an impressive rose garden (over 2,000 varieties).
During the week-ends it is particularly crowded.
Do not miss it if you are in Rennes!
GREAT PLACE TO VISIT!

The park is lovely. It does what the French do better than anyone else - civic investment in beauty. This park has many facets. Water features, formal planting, playground, bird cages, art gallery, lawns, young and old people enjoying themselves, a cafe. We spent 2 hours here. A great getaway from the bustling city just a few minutes walk away.

Beautiful well kept gardens that are a joy to see. My wife and I visited it on a hot day in August, there is plenty of shade and places to sit but the only facility to buy a drink was closed for an event. Therefore, it is best to take your own food and drink and enjoy the park.
