This experience is available in almost every city we have visited in France. Ride can be a bit bumpy, but on the other hand have fun. An easy way to see several areas of the city without walking, In Periquex, this helps eliminate some hills.

I have not really been one for sitting on a 'noddy' train trundling around a town or city, but a member of our small group (two couples) wanted to give it a try so we did. The driver is friendly and accommodating, the trip lasted about 40 minutes and the train threaded its way through impossibly small looking streets and busy traffic with complete aplomb. As each attraction came into view a pre-recorded commentary played over the vehicles loud speakers and we were able to locate each place on the free map that we had obtained from the tourist information office. After being a bit 'sniffy' about the small train at the outset, I have changed my mind and I think it is a good way to see what is on offer in the city' not just the attractions, but also to locate likely looking restaurants, shops and bars. It is good, give it a go right at the start of your visit.

Not a bad way to keep cool but train route leaves a lot to be desired. Some points of interest but could have included much more. Speaker commentary was not always in sync with we were seeing at the time. We've done a few of these mini train trips around cities and this one was lacking in comparison.

Lovely driver....happy fellow users....very informative commentary (in English too if required) our 4 boys aged from 15- 2 enjoyed it a lot. Was raining when we used it and it also kept us dry 👌
Sit at the back for great pictures 😀

I've been on other Le Petit Trains which were better...this one is good for seeing both the medieval and roman parts of the city without walking. However, the train didn't stop or slow for picture taking and a lot of the medieval sites are not a part of the route. Much better to walk the self-guiding tours available from the tourist office if you can manage the cobbled streets and distances.

This train does not run during November through about April. So check your calendars. We have used petit trains in other cities in previous years and really enjoy the overview ride.

This is a 'must do' if you're ever in Perigueux. The train cost €7 for adults and, as we're big kids at heart, we loved every minute. We used the trip to give us an idea about where to visit the following day and for that reason alone it was excellent. The whole circuit took around 30 minutes and the best part was going along the very narrow medieval streets where you could literally reach out and grab something if you had the inclination...or wanted to get arrested!
We had some skateboarders who tagged along for the ride...literally...holding on to the back of the train up the steep hill. The only thing I would reccommend is that if you're a lady wear a VERY supportive bra as it gets a little bumpy to say the least.

We had already spent an hour walking around when we got the train - what a good job we did - found much more to see and went back afterwards for another 2 hours of sightseeing. The tour is excellent and I believe presented in 3 languages, French, English and I believe also German. The driver asks your native language and advises the correct carriage to be in. It's fun watching them slide up the smaller streets, avoiding shoppers and café chairs as they go. I don't agree that it's a summer day avoidance though - there were tops to the carriages and during the 35 minutes we never felt too hot despite it being a fine day. Just remember there is only one traIN per hour, on the hour. Board it at the corner of Rue Eguillerie and Cours Michel Montaigne. Oh, and we parked down by the River on the Boulevard Georges Saumande for free and walked up through the city. Found it easier to get in and out but then it was only a few days before the Tour de France arrived!! Oh, and the number I provided is in Bergerac...

I had the opportunity to hop on that train a few times for the past four years, of course it is great for kids, Perigueux is a lovely city so the sightseeing is awesome... Always quite impressive with the busy traffics and the narrow turns, but drivers always make it through... But watch out for the weather forecast, you could pretty much be burnt alive on a sunny summer day, a must do in autumn or a rainy day!

It's possible to see so much more than trying to do all the walking. Then you can go back to see the bits you really like.
