The Lhasa Railway Station is an engineering marvel. It has 3 boarding levels with 10 tracks for cargo and passengers. Every track will connect to Motherland. We are on board the highest railway to Xining. Tibetan Travel Permits are needed for the rail journey.
Contemporary Tibetan architecture and interior designs are highlighted. Crimson, white, terrazzo tiles and wood are featured in the main hall and the waiting area. Inside our cabin are 4 sleep bunkers. Impo
They are clean and comfortable for the 1972km journey to Xining.

Reached Lhasa station after 38 hours of an epic journey. It took another 30 minutes to clear the passport and the permit. Then 500 meters walk before meeting our guide. Still the station is impressive and well connected to all major cities in china. Not much in English neither much facilities.

After long hours from the train, need to wait for the permit to clear and still need to walk a long distance to the car park as the buses were parked very far away from the station. It was very tiring especially if one from suffer altitude sickness. I felt dizzy and breathless walking so long distance. So need to slow down and don't walk too fast.

You are not allowed within 150 metres of the building in motorised transport. You walk through a variety of checkpoints for ticketing and personal identification. It can be busy and time consuming. Modern architecture. Convenience Store within. Soft Sleeper Lounge. When train is announced it's everyone for themselves.Best to board at the end.
