This is a lovely bridge over the river, on our cruise, we were told it was Bordeaux,s Goldern Gate bridge, well worth a look from above or below.

Upon approach, the bridge impressed us looking somewhat like the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge. The color was a gleaming gold/orange and it was a suspension bridge with towers like the Golden Gate Bridge.

It was a beautiful morning, the bridge transverses a beautiful stretch of water, and the shoreline was so peaceful and tranquil. The suspension cables were replaced in 1998 as they were starting to fail (procedures needed some revisions on how to make them last longer).

I always end up going across this bridge when i've taken a wrong turning onto the "rocade". BUT the best views are actually at the bottom from either the rive gauche or droite banks. Take a bicycle (its a bit far by foot) and follow the landmark until underneath. Great views on both sides, however the right side is really the best option if you want to take a picnic with a lot more options close to the river and along the banks.

On a recent cruise, our ship "Marina" ventured up the Garonne river to dock at Bordeaux. We were told we would have to do this at low tide as Marina was the largest ship that could get into Boredeaux. That was always going to be something to watch! Checkthe photos; we made it, but with the navigation mast folded down.

This is the suspension bridge that connects to the Bordeaux Ring Road, A630, crossing the Garonne River with over a mile long span. It got my attention when I was on it, admiring the view but wondering when it would end. Then I crossed beneath it in a boat. The 1822 Pont de Pierre was the only crossing until this was built to the plans of architect Jean Fayeton and finished in 1967. It was all but completely rebuilt in 2000-2005. It has been eclipsed in looks, if not in volume, by the slick new lift bridge Chaban Delman, inaugurated in 2013 and named for the Bordeaux mayor/French Minister of Public Works whose administration built the Aquitaine Bridge.
