They've made it easy. You know those self serve hard candies with scoops and little bags in the US? Maison Georges Larnicol has that system set up with truffles. Just fill your own bag, like a kid in a candy store. You gotta love the French.

Your cellophane bag(s) go into a brown (of course) shopping bag with the name of the store and Meilleur Ouvrier de France emblazoned on it. This means that Larnicol won an MOF, meaning One of the Best Craftsmen in France, in the chocolatier category in this prestigious annual trade competition. It's a lifetime title. He made his name on the chocolate sculptures you'll see in the store windows. Apparently the little kouig ammans are also well known.

Maison George Larnicol is based in Paris, but there are now stores elsewhere, like in Bordeaux, in Pride of Place next to the Grand Hotel and across from the Grand Theater. There is another one in the Market Square in Libourne.

This shop offers self-serve choice of a wide array of chocolate. I chose three different varieties of dark chocolate to give to a friend along with a bottle of Bordeaux! Service was excellent.

Bought 4 pieces of macarons for .80 each. They were very good. Not too sweet and very fresh tasting. I liked it better than Laduree.

We also bought a piece of Kouignette for 1.60. That was a little too sweet. We didn't really enjoy at all.

Disturbing! Last week we wanted to buy a pretty chocolate letter seen in the window for Valentine's Day. Entering the store, a person paying for a purchase and 2 saleswomen chatting. After 5 minutes of waiting, these brave ladies were not interested in our presence, so we left the store. Yesterday, new try, 2 customers, 2 saleswomen who take care of them, we wait. After 5 minutes the first saleswoman is free and rushes towards a customer who has just returned.... Did we feel bad? Was our outfit incorrect? We left and bought our chocolates at Cadot-Badié, 2 steps from their house.

In the sweet shop in the complex of the Grandhotel Bordeaux we bought the best macarons of our lives. The fact that they are made only with natural ingredients and without artificial additives is already tasted at the first bite. Each piece convinces, although we first considered which one we like best: Raspberry, pistachio or what, what? We took some home with us and would have liked to buy more, but the space in the suitcase was limited. We would like to order them if shipping to Germany were easier. Bordeaux is also worth a visit because of its exquisite macarons.

We had been told by an American tourist in another town that this was the place to get macarons from and they were right.
The macarons are superb. The taste is stunning and really do taste like the fruit they are flavoured with.
The staff member that served us was very friendly and helpful. He realised that we were from New Zealand and was very keen on rugby, particularly Jonah Lomu.

We spent a very long time in this beautiful shop that is full of such delectable chocolates and other sweet things. We just could not get enough. We love chocolate and this was the perfect place to be in. Everything in here is so irresistible. The chocolates, the pastries, macarons and all kinds of lovely goodies..... This is a place you just have to visit and buy! It is located next to the Intercontinental Hotel and opposite The Grand Theatre. After visiting this shop we sat on the steps in front of the Grand Theatre and enjoyed some of our chocolates. A great way to see the world go by.

Various chocolates and pastries line the window boxes where you just cannot walk by, but are drawn in the front door. We easily spent €6.50 on the dark chocolate with apricots and nuts. Along with a few others. I cannot save them to take home, just so good, they will be gone, if not today, then tomorrow.

I am from London and have the luck of knowing some very fine chocolate shops. For example Hotel Chocolat, a middle range priced chocolate shop but for extremly good quality chocolate. Maison Larnicol in Bordeaux, not only offered poor and unfriendly service (the service seemed arrogant) it also had an extremly low quality of chocolate, for a price that is to be quite honest a joke! We bought a bag with 5/6 chocolates in it for €9 and neither of us liked them and so ended up throwing them away! Waste of money! This is one of those shops that presents itself as something special, when in actual fact it's a rip off!

I tried a few of the flavors, but nothing beats the original Kouignette flavor. It's my new obsession and I was so happy to see this store had an outlet in Bordeaux. There is so much to choose from in the chocolate section as well. The milk chocolate with toffee chips is the best I've tried in the store. The dark chocolate was good, but the stunner was the milk with toffee for me. You serve yourself in a clear bag and then it is weighed to determine price. The value is good for the quality, but don't walk in thinking you'll pay Mr Bulky prices.
