If there is a representative place in the city, it is this beautiful and stately square built in the 18th century. It was seeing it and remembering Paris. Our first tram ride on line C left us there and the truth is that when you find it, you don't know where to look, the facades of both the Chamber of Commerce building and the Hôtel des Fermes ( It currently houses the Customs Museum) they have statues of Roman gods and goddesses such as Neptune, Mercury, Bacchus, Minerva and, as we were told, there are also the most significant merchants of the city. Also striking in the center is the monumental Fontaine de Trois Grâce. Everything makes a beautiful ensemble to look at and that is why I recommend walking around it calmly and focusing on the details, which are sometimes lost in the general view.
Beautiful during the day and also at night. Since it rained a lot the days we were there, we were also able to enjoy the beautiful reflections that the water leaves in the square.

During the day, it's just a big, open, barren space with little going for it. Building is nice, but so are 100's of other buildings. It's much more interesting at night, especially in weekends, when people picnic and party in the nearby gardens. Anyway, you can't really miss it, since it's right in the city center .....

The principal buildings here are impressive in their own right, quite apart from the effect from the far side of the Water Mirror. The Fountain of the Three Graces is the final piece making a visit here a central part of touring in Bordeaux. A royal square, it is near the Garonne River. Part of the city walls were demolished so Louis XV could thereby celebrate himself as France [no vanity there]. The core design is neoclassical.

Nice open space to walk and relax. This place is also close to the river Garonne. Several coffee shops and restaurants nearby. Good and frequent tram stops close to this square. Also ideal for children to run a bit freely. This square is situated between Quinconces square and Porte Cailhau. However, in Winter time, there is no water on the water mirror in front. So be careful because you might miss this attraction. We visited Bordeaux in December and it was freezing cold!

This visit, a major renovation project was well-underway. Buildings were wrapped in sheeting while work was in progress. The square itself looked a bit shabby with tables set up; it just took away from any semblance of attractiveness.
The buildings do look like they are need of some cleaning. I remembered it looking better in the past. Maybe even buildings can have "bad hair days."

Created between 1730-1755 and originally called Royal Square, Place de la Bourse is a location of much ambience in the historic centre of Bordeaux. Facing the Garonne River to the east, the square is lined with elegant building facades and features a monument Fountain of Three Graces. Closer to the river there is also the landmark Water Mirror from which the square can be most beautifully viewed. Given its proximity to many important sightseeing stops in Bordeaux, Place de la Bourse is quite convenient to visit by foot while exploring the city centre.

Gave this a 1 rating: Overall there had been a lot of hype to get folks to visit this area of France. In our opinion not worth it. Sites of interest are spread out and long walks and honestly not that interesting compared to what else we saw in France. The shopping was nothing special . It might be a huge draw for the area but not a destination place to go to. We thought there would be a lot of wine tasting shops in the city not true. Was our biggest disappointment in our France trip.

Remarkable together is the Place de la Bourse. At the beginning of the 18th century, Bordeaux was locked in its medieval straitjacket. It should happily open onto the Garonne, especially since the city has become one of the most important trading places in the kingdom. Wine trade with the West Indies, it must be embellished, flatter the trade. We therefore decided to create a royal place commensurate with the monarch Louis XV. This is how this sumptuous place of pure classic style was born. In the center imagine, as in Versailles, an equestrian statue of the sovereign, enclosed by an immense wrought iron gate, the statue will be brought down as well as my gates, thus opening the square onto the Garonne. In the 19th century, on the site of the statue, the superb fountain with three graces was built. When you are here, everything is harmony. This place is part of a walk where a treasure is hidden on every street corner.
The mineral square faces the liquid square, go and dip your feet in the mirror of water just a stone's throw away.

This square was one of the great historical landmarks of the modern city of Bordeaux. Built and opened in the first half of the 18th century, it offered visitors a modern opening of the city between its ancient walls.
Today it is the emblem of the city. Little for a capital of such importance. It is one of those monuments that are not really as unique and spectacular as you can see in photos or reports. However, it is a place with great charm and monumental grandeur.

Beautiful building in Bordeaux. I attended a conference here and the rooms were amazing. The catering was also excellent. The room for the meeting must hold at least 350 with a large projector. Would recommend a visit.

Does anyone know an approximate date for when the water is turned on?
Written October 29, 2016
Just Google it:
Hours
The water mirror runs daily from 10h to 22h,
in the following cycle: 3 minutes filling 15 minutes of mirror, drain 5 minutes and 3 minutes from fog.

I would like to know if the building is used as government offices and maybe some section is a palace and museum.
Written April 20, 2016
Yes, the building on the left is a Free museum (Musée des Douanes), the building on the right is a government office, and the center one was the USA ambassade, but for now (for 8 years exactly) that's a restaurant, you have a bar on grounfloor, a traditional Restaurant on first step and a gastronomic Restaurant on second step. Hope I have answered all your questions ! ☺️

How do I get there from the cruise ship port?
Written August 20, 2015
It mostly depend of the ship.
The "smaller" ships (less than 50m high and 250m long) are often anchored in the heart of the city, and going to the various landmarks are not an issue.
The schedule for the raising bridge list the ships that will go under it : if yours is in the list, then it will be anchored in the center of the city.
Unfortunately, I am unable to give you the link to the list. Try to google "pont-chaban-delmas-previsions-de-fermetures-a-la-circulation" in order to get to the official page on the bordeaux-metropole website.
If your ship is not on the list, then it means that it will be anchored further away. Contact your cruise operator for the details, he probably already planned a bus for going to the inner city.

We've been in Bordeaux for 3 days & the water feature hasn't been in operation. Does anyone know why it hasn't been working?
Written April 6, 2015
It's stopped during the winter monthes for maintenance (and probably in order to avoid icing of the system)
