We were very impressed with the monument at the end of the Esplanade des Quinconces - the Monument au Girondins. It is dedicated to the men of Bordeaux who lost their heads to the guillotine during the French revolution in 1792. It is 50 metres high. There is a an immense fountain at the bottom of this monument but sadly... More

We walked along this Esplanade on a number of occasions and watched locals and tourists alike enjoying the views and various eateries and activities dotted along the riverfront.

Pretty park, close to shops and cafes in Bordeaux - easily accessible by metro. Lovely water fountain.

This huge park hosts many different events throughout the year - in May there was a huge circus filling the entire area. However, except as a local change point for the tram system and the enchanting fountain, the park is not well landscaped at all and is open and barren.

This is an amazing place and hard to photograph simply because of its huge scale. The top of the monument can be seen from all over Bordeaux and the park around it is also worth the visit.

Quinconces Esplanade is one of the largest squares in Europe. You will enjoy your walk among trees and impressive monuments. The last decade the place has become the most important public transport hub of the area, with two tram lines, bus lines, an electric shuttle, and coach lines through Gironde.

This place is a HUGE area which tends to host events a few times a year such as an amusement fair, football games during national, european or world championships, or the biggest Brocante (event during which you get to buy antiques) held in town. Apart from when these events take place, the place is huge and hosts nothing but dust... More
