An opera house in clear qualitative progress in recent years. Unfortunately a disastrous and clientelistic ticketing. If you have decided to go to a show and pay the price, it will be necessary to wait until the employees of the Opera, the members of the orchestra, all apparatchiks and affiliates (who are exempt from the official tariff) have obtained the best seats... Suffice to say that it discourages supporting an opera house turned towards itself unable to open

I wish I could comment on the opera house but I can’t: my review is of their online booking system, which has discouraged me from attending. It seems to be impossible to book a specific seat - the system only allows you to book in a specific bank of seats, so you have no clear idea of what your view will be like.
I contacted the box office about this and they replied that I was welcome to phone them up and book specific seats that way. As I have this misfortune to live in britain, this would not be the easiest option - and why should we have to ring up the box office in 2024?
Shockingly bad customer service and awkward website makes htis a non-starter for me.

The bulding is amazing! If you are interested in Architecture do not miss it! When we entered ai asked a women (around 50 years old) wether we can see the inside of the building or wether there is a performance or concert that night so I can buy some tickets. Se replied no no to all my question without giving me any attention! To me that is unacceptable beacause my intetion was to give them my money! It did not wort such a misbehave! Never ever there!

Great that even Strasbourg has its restaured Opera building, but some more Opera and concerts would be great too.

We have attended on e of the best opera performances we have ever attended. The Theater is small and cosy with very good acoustics and the performance of "Farnace" a revelation. Excellent performance from the Koncerto Kohln impeccably conducted by the young but confident Greek conductor Petrou. The staging by Lucinda Shields was inspiring and the introduction of dancing sequences, although not consistent with the original version, was well integrated.

Actually we wanted to visit the Opera House, but there was no performance and even no visit possible. The outside view with its columns is good.

conduct the following experiment: take a little chair with a very upright back and little depth and position it in front of a wall with a space of 46 cm between the wall and the back rest.
Then you have the real dimensions of the seating arrangements at the third circle of the opera! Before you proceed to your booking, also consider that if you have a seat in the back rows of this circle you can only see the back end of the stage-and much of "La Traviata" takes place front stage.
A friend and fellow visitor, himself a former theatre director, told me that among the actors the upper circles in Strasbourg have a nickname: The Chicken Coop. There, unscrupulous directors put the 'claque', people who would pre-condition the audience with their enthusiastic applause, an early form of spin-doctoring therefore; I could see the logic of it but regret at the same time that free range chicken keeping had not caught on in the Strasbourg Opéra just yet!
My advice therefore: unlike progress in Dante's "Inferno" the circles become less infernal the lower you get. Lash out on a box, bring your own Moët et Chandon, and compared to the prices in the foyer during the interval most of the extra expense is recouped!
I loved the sound of the Opera, orchestra and cast were great, and I was told by luckier members of our group with a box that visually it was more than acceptable as well........

To book tickets, you can either use the website or phone. The problem with the website is that it doesn't allow you to choose where you want to sit, and whichever price category I tried, I was placed in the front stalls, which is no use to me as I have a neck injury. Despite my abominable French, I braved the phone line (only open at certain hours of the day, midweek) to book my tickets in the Deuxieme Balcon, but they must have misheard my address as nothing arrived until I chased them four weeks later.
But the show and the theatre were worth it when I got there. The theatre, dating from 1821 but rebuilt following the German bombardment in 1870, is quite intimate, seating around 1,200 in stalls and three shallow tiers, is lavishly decorated in red and gold, with delightful architectural details - look out for the little cupids, each playing a different musical instrument, perched around the Premier Balcon, and the lovely ceiling paitings and elaborate chandelier. The acoustic is lovely and warm. So is the theatre, it has no air conditioning, so dress lightly and bring a fan! There is no cloakroom, but the vestibule for each level is studded with brass coat hooks, one for each seat, so that you can hang up your coat, umbrella etc and retrieve it as soon as the performance is over. A great innovation! The magnificently decorated Salle Paul Bastide offers refreshments in the intervals, and is well worth a look even if you don't want a drink.
The music and productions are of a very high standard. I saw John Adams' "Doctor Atomic", a troubling, difficult opera in a superb production by Lucinda Childs, with superb performances by Dietrich Henschel (Oppenheimer), Anna Grevelius (Kitty), Peter Sidhom (Groves), Robert Bork (Teller), Marlin Miller (Wilson), Jovita Vaskeviciute (Pasqualita), Brian Bannatyne-Scott (Hubbard), John Graham-Hall (Nolan), the dancers, and the massive chorus. Patrick Davin, the conductor, deserves a medal!
