worth a stop
Jan 2020
The museum is located right across from the Cathedral and one of the many museums you can visit with a one-day (€12) or two-day pass that is a very good value. I visited this, along with the Decorative Arts Museum, the Modern Art Museum (a 10-minute walk away), and the Medieval Art collection also near the cathedral. It seems the gallery is located in the old bishops' palace, which is a beautiful building in and of itself. The Decorative Arts Museum gives you a view of some of the main rooms of the palace, including places used by Louis XV and Napoleon I.

The collection is well presented. It is not heavy on major works, but there are a few gems and I enjoyed some of the works by painters (including local painters) that I did not know.

Worth a visit for sure.

This a museum located in an old palace, near the cathedral. It is worth a visit given the nice collection of old masters.

Museum gave good example of the Beaux-Arts period. Did not see an audio guide available. Exhibits were clearly marked and gave good explanations

Free on Sundays. Located at the Rohan Palace along with the archaeology and Decorative Art museums
Sep 2019
On the first floor of the Rohan Palace you will find the Museum of Fine Arts. It has European paintings from the Middle Ages to 1870. Flemish, Italian, Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism and Romantic styles. They are directly across from the Strasbourg Cathedral so if you have time, it is worth a visit. The rooms are well thought out and not swamped with tourists. Free on the first Sunday of the month, 7 Euros to enter go get the day pass for 12 Euros and see all three museums here! Hours are 10 am-6 pm Tuesday -Sunday. Closed on Mondays. The front desk people accept credit cards and speak English.

Fine Arts Museum

We bought the 3 Museum pass. The highlight of the fine arts museum for me was the period furnished rooms. There is a wide variety of paintings. Suggest spending a hour here. Audio tour wasn’t that great.

Several paintings took my breath away
May 2019 • Solo
I really enjoyed my visit to this museum. I loved how much space there was, and there was plenty of room to stand back and appreciate each artwork. I also liked that it wasn’t a large gallery swamped with tourists.

I wasn’t able to source an audio guide for my visit - as it was a public holiday there were fewer staff around. The Museum provides printed guides for your visit to the museum, identifying 6 paintings to see and history about each one. Very informative :)

Some other comments about the lack of ‘must see’ paintings puzzle me. I’ve been to the likes of the Hermitage and Prado Museum, and still found plenty of paintings that took my breath away.

Well presented works

The museum is part of the 3 for 1 offer and although well presented and spacious it lacks the really 'must see' paintings. Rather heavy on rennaisance religous works and rather dull landscapes; so if you like them.....

The palace is next to the cathedral and is accessed through a courtyard although it faces onto the river the entrance is on the other side. We took adantage of the museum pass which gave us access to the fine arts museum, the palace rooms, the textile museum and the archaeology museum set in the basement. The day pass also gives you entry to other muniicpa museum and the very helpful lady on the ticket desk gave us more details on what elese we could see. My advice would be to start in the art museum on the top floor, and work your way down. The art was very good and the palace rooms are equipped in periodic furnishings. There are guides for each room which explains the main items and it also has the added benefit of good views of the river

Average collection
Sep 2018 • Couples
This museum is immediately next to the old cathedral in central Strasbourg. The museum is housed in the second floor of a historic building with the museum of archeology and textile museum housed as well. The collection is mediocre/average compared to other art museums in major European cities. The museum does have beautiful large rooms and is cool and quiet. One can easily appreciate or view the collection in about an hour. The entrance fee is modest. It would be a nice location for a break from crowds. The washroom facilities are clean, modern and free.
