- DavidDevon, United Kingdom172 contributionsSuperb setting.Beautiful city. If you enjoy walking then you can walk around the whole historic centre of the city and take in the several markets at different locations. There is everything you would expect at a Chritmas market in abundance. The settings are superb. The gothic cathedral is a joy of a bonus. (We preferred Strasbourg the the markets we saw in Viena last year.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 30, 2023
- Carolynrose55 contributionsBest Christmas MarketI visited this Christmas market over the weekend. I liked this market the best of all of the markets in Strasbourg. This market is an easy walk from the Hom de Fer and the Place de Cathedral. They offer the usual food and a good assortment of Christmas souvenirs. The aisles are a little bit wider than some of the other markets. There is also a monument commemorating the French general LeClerc who liberated Strasbourg during WWII. I recommend visiting on a weekday ; DON'T GO ON THE WEEKEND.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten December 3, 2023

It is all kind of the same stuff. The city remains beautiful and the lights in tre evening too. Worth seeing once…Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 7, 2023
- L'aquilaAmsterdam, The Netherlands404 contributionsAn amazing experienceThe Christmas markets are always places where they become a common place to enjoy the moments together. This one is a unique experience even though all markets have their own spirit. The animation of the Christmas tree at 9pm was an amazing idea where people stare at silence and watch with a wow effect. The market presents a combined culture of France and Germany. I recommend all to see this market and enjoy.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 22, 2023
- ChardyGAbu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates243 contributionsA special place to go at Christmas timeFabulous, special, memorable experience! Across central Strasbourg, everywhere you turn there are markets, selling all sorts of Christmas goods and yummy food. Most houses are decorated with pine and teddy bears, which adds to the wonderful nights of the town. Not to be missed!Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 25, 2023

Christmas markets in Strasbourg are excellent. Multiple markets (including this one) situated in a beautiful city. What more could you ask for to get in the festive mood!
Massive range of stalls selling all kinds of food and drink as well as stalls offering a range of Christmas decorations, local crafts etc etc.
One bonus that differs from every other Christmas market we have been to (and we have been to a lot!) is most of the stallholders were really friendly.
After a two year gap (due to Covid) it was great to be back at a continental Christmas market and in many ways Strasbourg's markets challenge the better ones in Germany. Would definitely recommend.

If you are looking for a great Christmas Market experience go to Strasbourg! Follow the signs to the city center and park in the underground lot in front of the train station. From there it is a short walk into the Old Town (On an Island) which is a series of small markets which combine into a huge Christmas experience! Give yourself at least a half day or more to really enjoy it. Be aware that security concerns over the past few years have made it necessary to restrict the trams from stopping within the Old Town during the time the Christmas Market is operating, making it necessary to walk or take a cab. This should not be a problem to anyone that is normally mobile. The food, drink, and sights are a lifelong memory and worth the effort! Enjoy!

Given the exorbitant price of our ibis room (200eu/night for more than mediocre services), we were expecting an event that would be worth the detour and to be immersed in a magical Christmas atmosphere.
Very disappointed by Place Kleber: lots of identical stands selling food and objects seeming to come from China.
Fortunately more regional stands near the cathedral and at Petite France.
We expected more Christmas decorations or more originality.
Also very disappointed by the absence of Christmas music in the background and the absence of entertainment.
Great efforts on security. Armed force crossings throughout the city.
The city of Strasbourg is very beautiful, especially Petite France.
City to see but we remain overall very disappointed with the Christmas market, especially having paid these prices for the train and the hotel room (rates which skyrocket during this period..) for an event which left us mixed.

What a desappointment !
Apart from the magnificent decorations of a small part of the city, it is impossible for you to eat and have a drink on a table! Nothing is planned for this.
During the week everything closes at 9 p.m. and the city immediately becomes inanimate. The prices charged by the exhibitors are exorbitant (€8 for a soup) Liège remains a safe bet for months ==> music, table, covered area, ice rink, decoration, heating etc!

We went to three Christmas markets: Strasbourg, Cologne and Brussels. Strasbourg was by far the best. The entire city was decorated and many of the store fronts were elaborately decorated. I wish we had ended our trip here instead of starting it here so we could have appreciated it more.

Too many people for the size of the market.
It doesn't seem to me that it is adapted for the number of tourists it receives. Huge lines to eat and huge lines to go to the bathroom. It should be noted that to go to the bathroom you must enter the fayette or go to a restaurant (five guys, macdo, etc.)
Some stores do not accept cards or require a minimum amount of €10.
Maybe in previous years it was better.
The address is not well indicated.
In my opinion it is not well organized for the number of people it receives.
I would have liked to see more craft and local food stores than stores that you get everywhere (sephora, calzedonia, naf naf…. Bof)

We generally found the Christmas markets disappointing. Strasbourg is hyped as the Christmas capital of Europe, but given the Christmas markets we found it a bit disappointing. Over the years there has been a lot of wish/shine Chinese junk that has been sold instead of local stuff. The food here is also quite disappointing, you have to look for a good bratwurst. All wines are warm, so not only red mulled wine but also white and rose. Chocolate milk is also rarely available and often cold, jagertee or something else cannot be found at all. The prices compared to other Christmas markets (and I have seen quite a few 10+) are exorbitantly high.
The city is beautifully decorated and illuminated, which is a plus

The city is certainly well decorated for Christmas and therefore very pretty, but I was expecting something much nicer in terms of atmosphere.
The products on the market are very similar from one stand to another (in fact you can find the same thing in the surrounding shops for 4-5€ cheaper...). Food is not cheap (10€ a small tray of mushroom pasta, for example...).
There is no music, no entertainment in the streets... Which I find very unfortunate because the atmosphere is not really there. There are many workshops and story readings at the Advent village, but they are mainly aimed at children.
We also booked a batorama ride but the atmosphere was quite gloomy inside the boat and for Christmas they replaced the usual audio for a "Christmas story" which got us drunk after 15 minutes because not very interesting and done with very nasal and exaggerated vocals.
The prices weren't cheap so we didn't buy a lot of souvenirs.
We still had a good time visiting the city but we are still disappointed overall.

Is the Christmas market going to be on this year. 2020
Written October 9, 2020
Does anyone know the people who make the beautiful shearling gloves and mittens in the Christmas market in the cathedral square?
I bought a pair of mittens there and then lost one of them! I am devastated and am trying to locate the vendor so I can buy another pair.
Help!

I remember them being there and marveling at their beauty and softness. I will check to see if I can find a name and address. I found this contact@plandutouriste.eu
Ph 03 88 16 35 42. This is the tourist office that establishes the layout for the Christmas Market. They may be able to assist you in identifying the vendor. Best of Luck

Until which hours the Christmas market open?
Written December 25, 2019
The various markets close around 8pm. On the other hand they open around 10am. So they are open most of the day but not into the night. Some surrounding shops remain open after the markets close and those can be interesting and fun too.

It‘s pretty much all day long, the exact opening and closing time depends on the day
(Sunday- Thursday 11-20, Friday 11-21, Saturday 11-22) (I hope these are correct)
