The staff was so helpful in sharing the bus schedules and giving advice on finding car rentals. Take a copy of the bus schedules of the villages you plan to visit! They were also able to give helpful advice on visiting the other villages. Clean tioilets available at the tourism center!

My friend and I weren't sure of whether to drive or not but we were keen to visit the famous villages of Alsace. In the end, we succeeded in visiting 4 villages (Eguishiem, Riquewihr, Ribeauville and Kayserberg) over just 2 days entirely using the bus service!

Our hotel was near the Gare de Colmar so that was often our starting point for boarding the buses. Do take note that at the Gare there are quite a lot of different bus-stops so give yourself adequate buffer time to search for the right bus-stop where your bus is to be found.

To Eguishiem we took line 208 from the Gare and it brought us nicely to the Eguishiem village in about 20min. The buses start leaving Colmar Gare at 12pm plus but there is a huge time gap to the next timing (4.30pm, 5.40pm, 6.25pm). We took the 1st bus out from 12.06pm from the Gare and reached Eguishiem at 12.45pm. We then took the last bus out from Eguishiem back to Colmar (5.10pm and back at Colmar at 5.45pm). For some reason the bus-driver didn't collect the fare from us so it was a free ride :)

To Riquewihr and Ribeauville it was easier as the bus interval starts much earlier at 7am. The bus frequency is also better (7am, 7.40am, 11.10am, 12.10am etc) but please check the latest schedule as it changes according to the season. We took the 7.40am bus from the Gare and reached Riquewihr at 8.10am. We then took our time to explore Riquewihr and then took the 11.40am bus from Riquewihr to go to Ribeauville where we arrived at 11.53am. We stayed at Ribeauville and took the 1pm bus back to Colmar, arriving at 1.55pm. The bus ticket cos 14euros for 2 of us.

We went back to our hotel to shower and rest for a bit before taking the afternoon bus to Kayserberg at 4.10pm at the Gare. We reached Kayserberg at 4.35pm and explored the area, including climbing up the Chateau de Kayserberg (or Schlossberg castle) and took the 6.10pm bus back to reach Colmar at 7.05pm. The bus ticket cos 12euros for 2 of us.

A visit to the tourist information office is a good starting place when visiting Colmar. The staff speaks several languages and can provide a wealth of assistance along with city maps and brochures in different languages

Young woman spoke English very well and helped us to get a taxi tour of the Route de Vin, English brochures available and a poster to tell us of a Folk Dancing concert on a Tuesday night in a square in Colmar Old City . We visited the dancing and we were treated to a great wind and brass band a piano accordion band and 30 or so excellent folk dancers, beautifully costumed. The best part was it was all free and a lot of fun.

Colmar is best avoided. This lovely place is unfortunately typified by the tourism office. We asked where a WC was and the response was too fast and entirely unhelpful. The whole town is stuffed with people on tours, so much that all charm is absent. Clearly this is like a Disney world with no genuine welcome, just take your money and go. Don’t waste your time and effort, go elsewhere. The city of Strasbourg is authentic and welcoming.

Hello, We are sorry if the welcome at the Tourist Office did not live up to your expectations. The toilets are indicated on 2 signs in our office. Best regards

There are many places in Alsace at least as nice as Colmar that are more accessible and a bit more authentic. The old town has become a bit of tourist trap with candy and souvenirs stores and fast-local restaurants.
Expect long lines to have a table at a restaurant during the day and the evening. It is strongly advisable to park some distance from the old town as the police is rather aggressive in ticketing tourists; you may not see a police car, police officer or receive a paper ticket and may just receive a fine in the mail with little recourse and substantial fees on top of it. Consider that a "tourist tax". The old town is worth spending one afternoon
but you will quickly find it repetitive. Having visited the area on multiple occasions in the past, I found myself wanting to see Colmar but must admit it that my expectations were not met.

We're sorry if you were disappointed by Colmar's old town. As far as parking is concerned, there are several car parks around the centre (some of which cost €3 a day), as well as a free shuttle bus that runs into town. As you point out, there are some very pretty villages close to Colmar, on the wine route. We hope you will enjoy your next stay in Alsace. Best regards

They were helpful and spoke far better English than our French! The line looked long when we entered but it moved along quickly.

This is a very large and helpful tourist office. Unfortunately for us, we parked on the southeast side of Old Town and it was quite a walk to get there. Directional signs to it were not well-placed along the way, either. Nevertheless, the staff are helpful, there are clean WCs, and many brochures about attractions in the city and surrounding area. My advice is to park your car on the north side of Old Town, in lots such as Parking Mairie or Parking Scheurer Kestner, then stop at the Tourist Office first before venturing into Old Town.

The office was bright and new looking, with many racks of brochures and maps. Plenty of room to browse materials. We did not have to wait long to talk to someone as some people mentioned. The gift shop was small but a nice addition. Restrooms were clean and handy.

The Tourist Office was located by the Museum Unterlinden but entrance was in a courtyard area. We used our walking GPS to get there and it was a little confusing, the GPS was trying to give us a "road" or street but entrance is in the courtyard area - just something to note as you head there. Worth a stop as you begin your visit in the town. Maps were helpful as you go through the town since it is a little spread out.

The title says it all: our visit to Colmar's tourist office was quick, and staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful (and, so friendly they even laughed at my lame jokes). They put us on the right track to have an enjoyable visit to this cool, small city . . . . . . . plus, they provided us with great advice regarding local transportation, and visiting other spots in the region.
