This was such an interesting museum about the Alsatian illustrator, Walt Hansi.,It explains his interesting life and shows many of his prints, sketches and paintings, There is also a big gift shop with Hansi everything. It is a good, different sight.,worth stopping there and going in the museum.

Lovely display of French history through Hansi`s eyes. Fine drawings, sketches, etc. You need an hour (minimum) here to look at and study the pictures, the characters, etc. Not only for children!

All around Colmar one sees glimpses of Hansi’s wonderful artwork. However, what I really liked about the museum was how it showed his patriotic spirit during the time of German occupation. His art showed a cartoon like quality that glorified things Alsatian, and poked fun at the German occupiers. (It landed him in jail)
Our visit to the museum really rounded out our experience in Alsace.

Incredibly rude staff. I arrived and asked for one ticket. They only spoke French (understandable) and tried to tell me it was closed for the next hour. Just closed in the middle of the day for an hour with no warning or reason. They showed me a sign with the hours. And, for some reason, the fact that I did not understand that they were closed for the next hour until they showed me the sign with the hours was hilarious to the buy who worked there. Literally laughing at me, when I just simply asked to buy a ticket and was shown that they were closed. I truly don’t understand why, but for some reason that was too funny. Don’t waste your time unless you feel like being laughed at for simply trying to visit.

We loved learning about "Oncle Hansi" and found his art to be totally charming. One comes away knowing more about the region.

A nice and not too big museum, where you can get to know the man, his kife and work, and how it all cinnected to this unique region and its history. Don't miss the museum shop - it has the best prices of local products such as boxes, cookies and other staff which is sold everywhere else for double.

We stayed in Colmar several days, but this museum hadn't come up in our research. I stumbled across it only because I saw information about a special exhibition at the museum by an Alsatian pottery artist posted on a Colmar on-line events calendar.
The first floor is shop, selling all kinds of Alsatian items, many unique, including food, whiskey, kitchen towels and mats, christmas decorations, kitchen utensils....
The second floor is the Hansi museum, and it can be enjoyed by both adults and children.
The museum was almost deserted. Low-volume sounds of children playing, etc, waft over the speakers. The life and works of "Hansi" (Jean-Jacques Waltz) is covered. He was a commercial designer and an artist. Some of his works from before WWI poke fun at the German administration that governed Alsace between 1871 and 1918, for which he was prosecuted.
His pictures and designs are generally playful, colorful, and fun. Until visiting the museum, I hadn't known that he designed the metallic store sign for Bofinger's, an Alsatian restaurant in Paris where we had eaten dinner several years earlier. Many of the signs he designed still hang on the front of buildings in Colmar.
It took us about 45 minutes or an hour to view the museum items, after which we made some purchases in the store on the first floor.

Small museum but an interesting introduction to Hansi and His works. Worth a visit while in Colmar.
Shop attached to museum has quite an extensive range of related products.

We visited this museum on a whim, because we had nothing else planned that morning, yet it proved a wonderful experience!
We hadn't previously heard of the artist Hansi, but he used his art to aid in German resistance in an incredible way. We were fascinated to explore this little gem, and it was the highlight of our visit in Colmar.
