- Hervé BStrasbourg, France220 contributionsBeautiful place, local and world cuisine, pleasant atmosphere. Without hesitation. It's not really a covered market but rather a gourmet market. The places to eat are numerous and varied. It's quite good and very pleasant to have lunch in this atmosphere. In addition, prices are low in a city that relies heavily on tourism.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 29, 2024
- Donna SMullica Hill, New Jersey266 contributionsVery nice market to explore with many choicesStopped in for a quick bite while touring Colmar. We had made to order spätzle and split a medium order which was enough for the two of us and quite delicious! The stalls in the market offered many options to choose from.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 13, 2024
- Sofie0987Leiden, The Netherlands98 contributionsNot worth the detour, but nice cafe by the waterAn indoor Point of Sale, little else special. There is a nice bakery inside and a public toilet (for women a huge queue!). Not worth walking around for but. There is a nice terrace with a balcony on the water. Nice seat!Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 9, 2024
- Daniele FParma, Italy867 contributionsPoint of SaleOn the right side of the canal there is the old Point of Sale where during the day you can taste the typical dishes of the city and the region. Inside, traders sell fresh produce: fruits, vegetables, meat and fish. And then many local specialties: wines, cheeses, pretzels, bread and desserts. It has a small terrace on the riverVisited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 14, 2024
- RubemperorVezzano Ligure, Italy3,594 contributionsPoint of Sale in the City CentreI went to this Point of Sale with my girlfriend on a day trip to Colmar. The large property is located on the edge of the canal that runs through the La Petite Venise district, the most iconic area of the Alsatian city. Inside there are numerous stalls of typical local products and dining options. I found some beers produced in the area, very good treats and a great selection of wines. The area is very busy especially during meal times. The prices are fair.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 16, 2024
- JeffCarterFairfax, Virginia1,006 contributionsWorth a stopThis place is pretty cool - and right in the middle old town where everything else is - so easy to pop in for lunch. There is plenty of local food options and a few areas to get a beer or glass of wine. Great bretzels. Long lines for bathroom but you can go across the street for faster lines. If you love strolling through markets you will like this one.Visited October 2024Traveled with friendsWritten November 17, 2024
- Barbara RTurin, Italy1,843 contributionsSmall but with good productsNice building near the canal area. Small but with many proposals of local specialties both to sell and to enjoy in the dining areas. There are also stands of fruit and vegetables, meats, cheeses and proposals from other countries. Very pleasant and cleanVisited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 20, 2024

Be careful at the Asian restaurant where you can sit down.
As the seller, a middle-aged man with a beard, didn't speak English, I wanted to point to the food at the counter, which he refused quite clearly and rudely. That seemed strange to me. So we sat down. The prices for chicken skewers, spring rolls and fried noodles were transparent. But four soups, which weren't on the menu anywhere and contained some pieces of meat and Asian noodles, see photo, were supposed to cost €44. We felt cheated. Selling a soup with a maximum content of €3 for €11...that's not acceptable.
So be careful. The chicken skewers and spring rolls were fine.

We visited the larger Colmar X’mas Market for a 3+ hour period. We came across this segment which is the Covered Market and found it very interesting, ended up having our lunch here. It was a Vietnamese-inspired food outlet, with piping hot noodles and Asian snacks. There were simple seats/tables and there were all occupied shortly. Around the Eat area are various stalls. An ideal stop for those who prefers a similar eat lunch (or dinner?) compared to the limited restaurants around which are more expensive too..
At one corner of the building there is an opening which leads tp some riverside alfresco dining. Cool (see pic)
The brick building with metallic roof offers a mid-sized market where one can find 20+ stalls with a wide variety of local food, hams, cheese, wines, fresh fruits, spices and even eateries souvenir shop".
It is near to the Old Town and also the Little Venice, and the covered roof provides for great shelter on some days! Not to be missed if you want local treats.

Marché Couvert Colmar is a charming indoor market in Colmar, France. This quaint marketplace is a food lover's paradise, offering a delightful array of fresh produce, cheeses, meats, and regional specialties. Strolling through its stalls, you'll be captivated by the vibrant colors and delicious aromas. It's a perfect place to sample local delicacies or pick up ingredients for a picnic. The friendly vendors add to the warm atmosphere. Whether you're a foodie or simply seeking an authentic taste of Colmar, a visit to Marché Couvert is a delightful experience. Note that dogs aren't allowed inside. There is also a restaurant that you can have a sit down meal in which is on a platform over the river which is a must do.

The market is nice and the food relatively good and genuine. My review is particularly negative because of the rudeness and unfriendliness of the staff from the center stand "LEGUMEZ-MOI". I ordered several dishes for me and my family (including little kids) and since there was no free table and i thought i could use one of the tables i asked to have my food packed to go. Eventually i was able to find a free table (they were all used by people without food waiting for their relatives) when I was rudely and aggressively sent away from a waitress because my food was "to go". I offered to pay a price difference (if existent) to sit down but she refused and unpolitely answered that i could not do anything but go... needless to say in other places i saw all people eating their food in cardboard in the market tables without problems. This was unbearable, the rudeness of this person ruined my launch and my experience so please avoid going here

The pizzeria inside is terrible. The one who makes pizzas is very borderline with everyone; the waiters, however, are very friendly. From my point of view, it was the owner who made the pizzas and, above all, the way he treated the staff. On the other hand, pizza dough had a weird smell.

We just went there on a Friday around 12:30 p.m. and the atmosphere seemed very friendly for a quick bite to eat!
Beautiful stalls, varied. The building has been modernized and is very clean.

This market had many stalls with different wares. Earlier in the day is better. It's located near the Little Venice area. The amount of time spent here will vary (less than an hour to more than an hour) with your interest and whether you stop for a coffee or food. Restrooms are available here but expect to find a line.

A small, manageable market hall, especially for tourists. There is the opportunity to eat and drink something. Fresh fruit, meat, bread, fish and vegetables. From the outside it looks much bigger than it is.

Built in 1865, a work of the architect Louis-Michel Boltz. A splendid architecture constructed with brick and stone.
There is a niche, a fountain at the south-west corner of the market hall, houses the statue of winemaker (Fontaine du Petit Vigneron). The statue is an artwork by Bartholdi, the designer of the Statue of Liberty
When I visited the spot, the red brick building stands alongside the waterway on a sunny autumn day. What a beautiful scenery.
Both the Market architecture and the statue of winemaker are awesome artworks, but often neglected by tourist.

We visited the market about 4 times during our 4 night stay in Colmar.
Twice we brought breakfast with coffee, and ate outside.
We also bought an excellent boxed lunch with generous salad, and items for making lunch and dinner at the apt we had rented - sausage, cheese, fresh produce, wine, fruit.... Everything was fresh and delicious.
Note that one of the large produce kiosks sells several varieties of wine from a certain winery; though they are visible inside the kiosk, you must ask for them - very good value.
Venders were considerate - especially if one says "Bonjour" and "Au revoir".

Is one market day in Colmar any more special than another? Are there any handicrafts for sale? We will be there at the end of May. Thank you!
Written April 15, 2017
Not to my knowledge. It is primarily food stalls ( fantastic ) and small eateries. My wife did buy some nik naks so there are a couple of that type of thing, nothing too exciting. The fish stall has a nice special of 6 oysters and a glass of Chablis ( among other specials ) very civilised. You must visit Ribeauville and Eguisheim and as many of the other villages as you can. Very picturesque. Strasbourg was worth a visit for us. If you do go, drive straight to the square at the town centre, there is the most amazing underground car park from which you can walk to anywhere. Enjoy the trip, I'm jealous :-)
