As our tour bus approached a traffic roundabout in Colmar, an unexpected object suddenly appeared through the front windshield of the bus. Everyone on the bus trained their eyes at the object with intense curiosity, because it was the Statue of Liberty standing in the middle of the road as if she was blocking out path! Then, our tour guide explained that the quarter size replica of the real Statue of Liberty was set up there in 2004 to commemorate Auguste Bartholdi’s centennial of his passing. Auguste Bartholdi, who created the real Statue of Liberty at the entrance of New York Harbor, was Colmar’s proud native son.

It's just a funny thing, this replica of the same 'madam' in New York. Just like the statue of 'Manneken Pis', also in Colmar. You take a picture and drive on... Nice detail though: they gave her a Covid mask!

Interesting to see that there is another Statue of Liberty. This one standing in the middle of round about. The designer, August Bartholdi, was born in Colmar.

This replica of the Statue of Liberty stands proudly in a roundabout just within the city limits of Colmar, France. It was constructed here since Colmar is the birthplace of August Bartholdi, who sculpted the one given to the United States. My wife and I have been avoiding travel to the US due to COVID. So, it was a pleasant surprise to find it here during the Christmas holiday. We felt like we were back home...even if only for a few minutes. Standing at just under 40 feet tall, this replica was dedicated on 4 July 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bartholdi's death. It stands at the north entrance of the city. While you can see this in only a few minutes, if you are in Colmar, it is worth the time!

We have seen this several times and always admire it, it gave me great pleasure to explain to a couple of New Yorkers why it was there, it had never occurred to them that the designer was French, from Colmar. They then purchased a postcard explaining the origin of the statue. A lovely piece of work.

The only reason the statue of Liberty (on a smaller scale) is here, is the fact its sculptor August Bartholdi is Colmar native.
The Statue stands at the northern suburbs roundabout.
While I was driving here I knew exactly what I'm about to see, but seeing it wrapped in Ukrainian flag deeply touched me.

We came upon this driving into Colmar and it's beautiful and an accurate model of the one in New York. There are also markers in the pavement in town that will lead you to the statue. Unfortunately, it is in the middle of a roundabout and hard to get close to for photos. Nonetheless, it's a great thing to see.

When you are going to visit the Village of Colmar, coming from the national road into town, you will not believe your eyes.
Arriving on the roundabout on the entrance of the city, you think immediately am I dreaming or what?
You have in front of you in the middle of the roundabout the “Statue of Liberty”, it is like you are in the USA.
Never mind it is only a Hugh copy from the original statue of Liberty of the USA.
But among the multiple copies of the statue, the one from Colmar should be the highest with his 12 meters of height.
Nice view on your arrival.
Up to the next place in Colmar.

The original one is in NYC which was made by Bartholdi. This is the copy in the centre of Colmar as the artchitect was from Colmar.

A long way out of the center so you need a car. We were on a guided tour otherwise would have missed it. In the middle of a roundabout on an industrial estate. I prefer the NY version!!
