Colmar is larger than I expected. It was nice to take this 6 euro train to look at the sights and then walk to them individually.

Spent a few hours in Colmar while on a bike and barge trip. Old city is very attractive and easy to get around. We cycled in and out of the city without any problems. Lots of quaint cafes to have lunch and a drink. You can take a 1 hour train ride which points out the highlights of the town for about 6 euros. It was well worth the time and money. Lots of Churches and museums to wande by or spend some time in. Also a small boat tour you can do but we did not have enough time. The boat tour leaves from the area called Le Petite Venice. We were there in September and the flowers along the tiny canals were beautiful. A great place for a relaxing day. Just sitting and people watching and soaking up the ambience was wonderful!

We visited Colmar for the afternoon when our River Boat Cruise docked there for the day. The city is quite wonderful, preserved for centuries. There are many, many unique shops and restaurants so plan to spend some time shopping and eating. We were provided a guide and I'm not sure which company booked her, but she was not the best and had a hard time keeping our attention. She also wandered and lost a few people. We had all been on the boat together for five days and recognized each other so we managed to all get back fine. Colmar is advertised as a city that has remained the same for centuries, but as we walked down a narrow street, a Lamborghini sports car roared its engine and we had to make room for it to pass It sure looked out of place! This wasn't my favorite stop along the Rhine River, but that may have been due to the tour guide.

Lots of walking as usual with lots of history to absorb. Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, designer of the Statue of Liberty, once lived there in the now Bartholdi Museum. There is a miniature replica of the Stature of Liberty there. Colmar is home to the Maison des Tetes named for the 111 heads decorating its facade.
